OHSAA handed out new division alignments in boys basketball for the 2017-18 season on Thursday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced new divisional assignments for the 2017-18 boys basketball season. With competitive balance coming into play, some programs moved up a division, while others dropped.

You can see the full scope of the state here.

Competitive balance is an initiative that aims to decrease the gap between public and private schools. You can get the full scope of what CB means and how it is calculated here. With that being said, let's take a look at the results across each division in Central Ohio.

Division I

The Central District was affected the least by competitive balance, as Central Ohio has the strongest public school basketball in the state in Division I. This was proven with Thursday's results, as no program in the area had more than 78 competitive balance students added to its enrollment, while every other area of the state had programs with 100+ competitive balance students.

No Division I teams moved down to Division II, while only Whitehall moved up to Division I, but not due to competitive balance, as the Rams program had zero enrollment additions due to the measure.

Division II

Division II, with more private schools than Division I, saw higher numbers in CB enrollment with Thursday's announcement. While the biggest news of the day is with regional title favorite Eastmoor staying in the division, a few other strong programs like Heath and Johnstown moved down to Division III. No Division III programs moved up to Division II, however. Let's take a full look at the results.

Division III

Division III is where things get interesting as a few Division IV juggernauts in Africentric, Harvest Prep and Wellington move into the division. Each of the three programs have won multiple district titles in Division IV, with all making at least one trip to the state tournament since 2012.

Two Licking County programs move down to Division III with Heath and Johnstown, as each program has made at least one Division II district final appearance since 2015. Let's take a look at the full results.

Division IV

With several bullies in Division IV moving up to Division III, D4 is expected to be much different this time around in 2017-18. Three of the four district finalists from last season move up, leaving Grove City Christian as the prohibitive favorite next year, despite losing four of five starters.
