GROVE CITY, Ohio -- As the clock winded down in Grove City's statement win on the road at Central Crossing, Greyhounds junior guard PJ Jones looked over to the Comet student section nearby.

"It's not football," Jones said in the waning moments of a dominant 18-point performance at the point guard position.

122 days after Central Crossing defeated Grove City in football in the first meeting between the two schools, Jones took the city of Grove City back for the Greyhounds in a 65-49 win.

In a game that Grove City never trailed in, the Greyhounds got off to a fast start out of the gate. A big shift of momentum went the Greyhounds' way midway through the first quarter following a missed baseline dunk from Central Crossing junior guard Antwon Hampton, which led to a transition score putting Grove City up 13-5.

While Central Crossing would counter with a 6-0 run, Grove City led 13-11 after a quarter of play. Grove City would open up the floodgates in the second quarter, holding Central Crossing to 10 points in the quarter, as its transition offense built a 34-21 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Grove City extended its lead to as much as 17 points, as Jones' eight points in the third quarter put the Greyhounds ahead 52-37. Central Crossing opened the third with back-to-back turnovers, which led to four Grove City points, taking the wind from the Comets' sails early in the second half.

In the fourth quarter, Grove City prevented any type of Central Crossing rally, cruising to a 65-49 win to improve to 8-4 on the season. Jones led the way with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, controlling the game from the point guard position and helping the Greyhounds dominate in transition.

Grove City enjoyed a wide margin on the glass, led primarily by senior forward Isaiah Dewberry, who controlled the boards, finishing with eight points and 12 rebounds. Senior forward Anthony Tyree was solid as well, despite early foul trouble, finishing with 13 points and six rebounds.

The key to the Grove City defense on Tuesday was senior guard Matt Burgess, who locked up the perimeter, finishing with 10 points, four rebounds and six steals. Burgess caused a steal on the game's opening possession, which was a sign of things to come for Central Crossing.

Going on a 5-0 run early on in the first, senior guard Zach Sammeth helped Grove City establish an early lead, finishing with eight points on the night.

For Central Crossing, the only player that consistently performed at a high level on Tuesday was junior guard Keason Lowe who finished with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior guard Mike Woods added 10 points and five rebounds, while senior wing and Franklin Heights transfer Eddie Ferguson added six points off the bench.

Struggling for most of the night, Hampton had an underwhelming performance, sitting out the majority of the second half in a four-point performance.

With the win, Grove City picks up added momentum going into a road matchup at No. 1 Pickerington Central on Friday. For Central Crossing, the Comets will look to rebound on Friday at No. 20 Dublin Coffman.
