Logan senior Bo Myers thoroughly dominated with 35 points and 10 rebounds

LOGAN, Ohio -- Long Live The Chief.

Logan's all-time leading scorer Bo Myers continued his historic senior season in fashion with 35 points and 10 rebounds in a 61-44 win over Bishop Hartley on Monday.

Myers wasted no time in getting going, scoring the first seven points of the game as Logan (17-3) jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Hartley (11-10) had a super senior of its own in Morgan Safford, who scored eight of his 17 points in the first quarter to help the Hawks climb to an 18-13 deficit at the end of the first.

Unfortunately for Hartley, the Hawks did not get much closer, as Myers scored 14 points in the second quarter, topping off by a deep three to push the Logan lead to 36-25 with just over 30 seconds to go in the half. Scoring an insane 24 points at the half, Myers helped Logan establish a healthy enough lead to roll over Hartley in the second half.

Thanks to crisp ball movement and consistently making the extra pass, the Chieftains were too much for Hartley on Monday. Knocking down eight threes on the night, Logan moved the ball at an elite level, as Myers especially excelled as a passer on the move, setting up plenty of easy looks.

On the defensive end, Logan was intent on stopping Safford, as he scored just two points after halftime to finish with 17 points on the night. Logan sent an extra defender Safford's way for most of the second half, forcing Hartley's supporting cast to produce, which they struggled to do on Monday.

Myers finished with an efficient 35 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals, dominating the game on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-6 wing hit two threes, knocked down a few mid-range jumpers and scored at a high level at the rim.

Outside of Myers, senior Caleb Bell hit three triples and added 10 points, while senior Wes Brooks pitched in nine points, three assists and plenty of hustle plays. The hero in the upset over Pickerington North last month, senior Layton Cassady did not score on Monday, but he impacted the game as a facilitator, finishing with a game-high seven assists.

For Hartley, Safford led all scorers with 17 points, adding seven rebounds and a block. Getting going early on in the game, Safford knocked down three triples and attacked hard off the dribble in the first half.

Rolling to a 17-point win, Logan finishes the regular season at 17-3 and will host No. 28 Grove City in the sectional semifinals on Saturday at 7 p.m.

For Hartley, sophomore guard Braden Blanchard added eight points on two triples off the bench, while junior guard Colby Rankin and freshman forward Javan Simmons each pitched in five points.

Before Hartley can begin its run to a potential district title, the Hawks will head to Johnstown on Wednesday for a tough non-conference matchup.

Bo Myers (6'6 WG / Logan / 2019): The coaching staff at Malone should be thrown in jail for the heist they got away with in nabbing Myers out of Logan. The 6-foot-6 wing guard is as good as any player at his position in the area, as he dominated Hartley on Monday to the tune of 35 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

Myers scored it on all three levels, hitting two threes from NBA range, knocking down a mid-range pull-up jumper off movement despite being fouled hard and scoring it at the rim with either hand. The 6-foot-6 wing guard plays with a chip on his shoulder, is tough as nails, can make any shot on the floor and defends with passion.

We were really impressed with the intensity he brought to the matchup with Safford, as he clearly took it personal and played the type of high-level game that would warrant serious Division I attention if he wasn't already signed to Malone.

Myers can handle the ball, as he is a change of pace handler that can get by guys to the rim. He uses his long wingspan to finish at a high level, while having plenty of tricks in his bag in the mid-range game. What we really like about Myers is that he plays within Logan's offense and is not a selfish player, as he could have easily went for 45+ on Monday. Myers is a very good passer on the move, showing off great vision to the weak side of the floor, as he was able to consistently break down Hartley's defense and find open shooters along the perimeter.

The Logan senior is going to fill in seamlessly at Malone and will have a chance to play major minutes as a true freshman. Myers is by far the best Division II commit in the area. In the last six games, Myers has scored 200 points, as he has scored at least 30 points in all of those games.

Morgan Safford (6'4 WG / Bishop Hartley / 2019): In the midst of a high scoring spree, Safford had a rough night to his high standards on Monday. Finishing with 17 points, Safford was the focus of Logan's defensive strategy, as the Chieftains brought extra defenders his way and forced Hartley's supporting cast to step up.

Despite that, Safford had his moments, as he had a strong first half with 15 points. Knocking down three pull up triples from the right wing, Safford excelled in one-on-one situations, as he is as tough as any player in the area to guard in isolation situations.

Safford attacked the defensive glass hard and pushed the tempo in transition. We were impressed with his motor and toughness playing on the road against a high quality opponent in a hostile environment.

With another tough non-conference test on the road at Johnstown on Wednesday, Safford will have a chance to end his regular season on a high note before what could be a memorable tournament run.

Javan Simmons (6'4 WF/PF / Bishop Hartley / 2022): With each new viewing we've had of Simmons, we have come away more impressed with the 6-foot-4 forward. On Monday, despite limited time, Simmons was very productive, finishing with five points and playing the best one-on-one defense against Myers of any of his teammates. The 6-foot-4 freshman is a physical forward who plays with a ton of confidence and belief, as he does not show any signs of intimidation on the floor. Simmons finishes through contact and has shown signs of handling coordination and playmaking ability with the ball in his hands. We are really excited to track Simmons going forward as we think he has a chance to develop into a standout player in the Central Catholic League in time.
