Luke Bartemes goes for 23 points as Coffman remains unbeaten

DUBLIN, Ohio -- Dublin Coffman hosted upset-minded Olentangy Orange on Tuesday, who were fresh off a victory over Olentangy Liberty coming in. Coffman would not suffer the same fate, however, as they topped Orange 67-59 behind 23 points from senior Luke Bartemes.

The first half was slow paced with the majority of play being in the half court. This played right into the hands of Orange as they were very patient offensively. Even with Coffman playing great defense, Orange managed to score efficiently.

At the half both teams were locked at 28 points. Luke Bartemes chipped in 12 first half points and Luke Ballinger led the Orange with 10 in the first half.

Coffman’s stellar defense paid dividends in the second half as they turned defense into offense and finally got out on the break.

After building a twelve point fourth quarter lead, the closest Orange got to Coffman was nine points, as the Rocks secured the win in front of the home crowd.

Ballinger led the way for Orange with 16 points on four triples. He was followed up by sophomore Andre Irvin with 12 points and three assists. Senior wing Bryson Lane also chipped in eight points and four assists for Orange.

Bartemes paced all scorers with 23 points for Coffman to go along with seven rebounds. He was followed up by junior Dom Penn with 14 points and six assists. Senior Will Hunter also had 14 points of his own.

Luke Bartemes (6’4 WG / Dublin Coffman / 2019): Luke had a game-high 23 points. As expected, he knocked down three three-pointers on the night, but what was more impressive was his ability to take advantage of smaller defenders in the post. Luke made some jump-hooks and several fade-away jumpers out of the post. The senior anchored Coffman tonight adding seven rebounds, one block and one steal to his point totals.

Dom Penn (6’0 G / Dublin Coffman / 2020): Dom played a huge part in getting his team out in the open floor on the defensive end. He had four steals on the night and found guys in transition all night with six assists. After a slow start, Penn played a big part in finishing the game off totaling 14 points.

Luke Ballinger (6’0 G / Olentangy Orange / 2019): Luke led the way for Olentangy Orange tonight by finishing with 16 points. Luke gave no reason to doubt why he’s considered one of the area’s top marksmen by knocking down four threes on the night as well.

Andre Irvin (5’8 G / Olentangy Orange / 2019): Irvin chipped in 11 points and four assists tonight. Andre doesn’t let his size play a factor in his play as he’s always competing one hundred percent on both ends of the floor. He showed flashes of what will come later in his career tonight. With an elite and elusive handle matched with good outside shooting and playmaking ability, look for Andre to be the guy next year for Orange offensively.

Will Hunter (6’3 G / Dublin Coffman / 2019): Will was aggressive early and often. He was able to get to the rim consistently and gave the Rocks a much needed scoring boost with 14 points. Will is often a forgotten piece with all of the talent that Coffman possesses, but he will be a huge X factor come tournament play.
