Arizona commit Terry Armstrong headlined a great showing of talent during Sunday's games

KETTERING, Ohio -- Though we did not get to see any area teams during Sunday’s action at the Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop Classic, we took in some great games all day.

The results went as follows:

Taft 66, Stivers 57

Chaminade Julienne 60, Butchel 59

Convoy Crestview 71, Minster 63

Winton Woods 54, Lebanon 35

Bella Vista Prep (AZ) 95, ISA at Andrews Osborne 64

Garfield Heights 64, Wayne 62

Let’s take a look at the top performers from the last three games.

Terry Armstrong (6’7 WG / 2019 / Bella Vista Prep): Armstrong was the life of the event on Sunday, dominating in Bella Vista Prep’s 95-64 win over ISA at Andrews Osborne. He scored 30 points, 26 of which came in the first half, and added seven rebounds to go along with six steals. The Arizona commit is one of the countries top 100 recruits, and put all of his tools on display this afternoon. He knocked down two three pointers in the first quarter piled along with three big slams to give himself 18 points in the frame. He scored in the mid-range, inside and by throwing down seven (!!) monster dunks. ISA had no matchup for him all day, and he consistently did whatever he wanted with the ball. On defense, he showed great instincts to go along with his above-average wingspan to come away with six steals. Armstrong was well worth the price of admission on Sunday and we look forward to following his career at Arizona over the next several seasons.

Meechie Johnson (6’1 CG / Garfield Heights / 2021): Though he had a slow night for three quarters on Sunday, Johnson put on a show in the final two minutes of the contest to help Garfield Heights come out victorious. One of the nations top sophomore guards, Meechie almost single-handedly fueled a Garfield Heights comeback in the final frame. Wayne led by as much as eight in the last three minutes, but Johnson knocked down several big three-pointers and found teammate Sonny Johnson Jr. open for a big triple late to give Garfield Heights life. He also forced a handful of turnovers in the last quarter, something that they failed to do all night. He has an elite handle for any point guard his age and can knock down the three-pointer at an elite clip. He hit three triples in the game Sunday, one of which tied the game at 62 with :23 seconds to play. He also does a great job of moving off the ball to find open looks on the perimeter and has above-average court vision in transition. We would like to see the sophomore improve his shot selection, but he will continue to receive high and mid-major attention as his prep career continues, deservingly so.

Addison Patterson (6’7 WG / Bella Vista Prep / 2020): When paired up with Armstrong, Patterson was a walking highlight reel in Sunday’s contest. One of the nations most sought after guards in the junior class, Patterson flashes every tool that a high-major wing needs to be successful. He can knock down the three when needed and slashes at an exceptional level. Patterson displays lightning quick end-to-end speed and put it on display in transition all day today. He threw down several major slams to show off his athleticism and displayed excellent court vision by finding Armstrong soaring above the rim for a handful of big lobs. On defense, he is a tough matchup for any wing as his length and speed are a nightmare to try and score on. He has every tool you need to excel at the high-major level and should do so regardless of school choice. Holding offers from schools along the lines of Maryland, Florida, Arizona State, etc., don’t be surprised when you see Patterson on your television in two years.

Brison Waller (6’8 PF / Garfield Heights / 2019): Despite hardly getting the ball in Sunday’s contest with Wayne, Waller was the best big on the floor the entire game. Standing at 6-foot-8 and boasting a great wingspan, he was extremely efficient around the rim when involved inside. He finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four blocks. Waller is very good at using his body in the paint to create easy looks and also shows potential in spacing the floor and knocking down the mid-range jumper. On defense, he was the main reason that Garfield Heights wasn’t scored on consistently in the paint. Blocking four shots and consistently altering others, Waller made it tough on the Wayne guards all night when they came inside. Waller is committed to Northwest Florida State College (JUCO), but held several mid and high-major offers before signing.

Keaon Ambrose (6’8 WF / ISA at Andrews Osborne / 2020): Ambrose was the go-to option for an overmatched Andrews Osborne team on Sunday afternoon. Ambrose finished with an impressive stat line of 25 points and five rebounds. He scored a handful of his points by knocking down the three-pointer, as he connected on five triples in the contest. Ambrose also showed the ability to score from the post with soft-touch moves and showed potential slashing. He has an impressive first-step and moves very well for a wing standing at 6-foot-8. His stroke from the perimeter caught out eye as well as he is not afraid to pull up with confidence, needing just a little bit of space to get his shot off. On defense, he was tasked with defending two players listed at 7-foot and 7-foot-1 for Bella Vista Prep, and did an excellent job. He used his strength to his advantage as he lacked length and gave the bigs problems when he could. He currently holds four D-I offers to our knowledge, including Florida, and that number is sure to grow over the next season and a half.

Bobby Cole (6’5 WF / Huber Heights Wayne / 2019): Cole was tasked with guarding Waller for most of tonight game and did an exceptional job. The senior is not overly long or strong, but does a good job of using his body and staying in front of bigs on the block to force tough shots. On offense, he was the leading scorer for Wayne with 20 points. He put the ball in the net in a variety of ways, as he was forced to do this against an extremely long Garfield Heights frontcourt. He knocked down two clutch three-pointers late and converted on an and-one, displaying his strength and ability to finish through contact. He also finished strong around the rim several times after grabbing offensive rebounds. Cole is the only prospect on this list who does not hold high-major offers and could be a really good get for a low-major D-II or NAIA program in need of a wing who can fill a role early on.
