Shamrocks hold Bears to season-low in crucial rivalry win

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio -- With Upper Arlington sporting one of the best environments in all of central Ohio, their rivalry game with Dublin Coffman featured a packed house like always. Unfortunately for the Golden Bears, this chapter read very similar to the last one with Coffman rolling big, defeating the Golden Bears, 58-32.

Dominiq Penn got things going early scoring six points in the first quarter, as Coffman got out to a 10-5 lead. However, Upper Arlington would not go away early as Jake Warinner’s lay-in at the buzzer cut the margin to just one through the opening frame. In a back and forth second quarter, Coffman headed into the halftime break up seven by a count of 22-15.

With the loss of star senior Max Martz, the Golden Bears are still trying to find their way offensively without the Penn-commit. There was no relief tonight as the always-tough Shamrocks defense was on their A game from the jump, and in the first half they were unable to consistently get shots to fall.

After a sluggish opening half by both sides offensively, a major spark from senior guard Grant Yeater helped the Rocks break the game wide open. He scored nine of his 11 points in the third quarter, and Coffman turned defense into offense time and time again as they outscored Upper Arlington 36-17 in the second half.

Luke Bartemes led Coffman in scoring with 13 points, including three triples. The senior was a major help in other facets as well adding in seven rebounds and notching three blocks on the defensive end.

Penn finished with 12 points on the night, including three assists, while Upper Arlington was led by Warinner with nine points.
