Jacob Singleton and Jordan McMillan combine for 50 points to lead the Wildcats

WESTERVILLE, Ohio-- In a game featuring two teams who don’t have much familiarity with one another, Westerville South dominated Toledo Waite on Thursday, winning 84-50.

With the game tied up at 10 after one quarter, Westerville South used a dominant 30-8 second quarter to take a 40-18 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Wildcats did this by knocking down a plethora of three pointers, including four triples from senior wing Jacob Singleton in the quarter.

Westerville South would never look back in the second half, as they used their full court defensive pressure to come up with many easy baskets off of steals. The Wildcat guards ultimately proved to be too much for Waite’s backcourt, propelling their team to victory.

Singleton led all scorers with a career-high 31 points, knocking down seven three pointers in the contest. He was followed up by senior guard Jordan McMillan with 19 points and sophomore Jaiden Guice with nine points. Senior wing forward Manny Sunnyway was a monster for the Wildcats on the glass all night, grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with his four points.

This win helps Westerville South move to an even 4-4 on the season before they get set to take on OCC-Buckeye rival Westerville North on January 4th.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jacob Singleton (6’3 WG/ Westerville South/ 2019): Though he is listed as the tallest player on the Westerville South roster, it is not any type of paint presence that Singleton uses to make his impact on the game. A very confident perimeter shooter, Singleton knocked down seven three-pointers en-route to his game high 31 points tonight. He also does a great job of using his long arms to shoot over top of defenders, a deadly trait when combined with his smooth stroke. Singleton is not the quickest off of the dribble, but is not afraid to put it on the deck and take his defender one-on-one. He was able to convert two and-one’s tonight, showing off more than just an outside shot. Singleton can also use his long arms cause problems on the wing defensively, and is a player that D3/NAIA schools could find a gem in.

Jordan McMillan (6’1 G/ Westerville South/ 2019): One of the best unsigned guards in the area, McMillan had his way with the Waite defense all night on his way to pouring in 19 points. After a quiet first half in which he scored just five points, McMillan came out very aggressive in the third quarter, scoring 12 points in the frame. Jordan did most of his scoring in the mid-range area tonight, knocking down several tough pull-ups. He came up with these looks off of the dribble, showing an exceptional handle and ability to create his own shot. McMillan also has the ability to score around the rim, using very quick moves to get to the bucket and finish. He’s also an exceptional perimeter defender, where he also puts his quick feet on display. The unsung leader of this Westerville South team, McMillan will look to find himself a home at the next level this winter.

Manny Sunnyway (6’1 WF/ Westerville South/ 2019): Sunnyway put together an absolutely dominant performance on the glass Thursday night, grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with his four points and five assists. The epitome of a team player, Manny plays the big man role for Westerville South at just 6’1, and does a very good job at it. Simply having more energy and want than his opponent at all times, you will never fail to see Sunnyway around any loose ball or rebound, creating many extra opportunities for his teammates. He also had five assists tonight, displaying good vision out of the Wildcats 1-3-1 offensive set. Every team needs a player like Manny in order to be successful.
