Westland junior guard Kalil Camara led all scorers with 21 points on Monday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In the unofficial Battle for Broad Street on Monday, West hosted Westland in a west side special. The host Cowboys had the advantage early, however Westland used a 43-24 advantage in the middle quarters to build a healthy lead.

Selfish play and sloppy ball security nearly lost the game for Westland, as West got as close as 73-70 with 1:30 to go. The Cougars closed out the game at the free throw line and went back to Galloway victorious, 76-72.

Westland junior guard Kalil Camara led the way with 21 points, scoring 11 of those in the third quarter alone. While foul trouble plagued his night, Camara was impressive attacking off the bounce, as the 6-foot-2 guard can really elevate to the rim. Camara began his night with a tip slam that got the gym rocking.

Outside of Camara, senior guards Deshawn Evans and Gaige Holbrook each finished with 13 points while junior guard Hunter Corwin added 10 points off the bench.

For West, senior forward Chris Veney nearly did enough to pull off the upset, as he finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Veney and sophomore guard Sidi Aden were very impressive in the second half, combining for 27 points.

The Cowboys also received double-figure scoring games from junior wing Abdi Gelle (12 points) and senior guard Keonn Goodgame (10 points). Goodgame started off the night with a steal and transition slam that surprised most in the crowd.

Let's take a look at the game's top prospects. While we evaluated Westland on Thursday, we will focus more on West's prospects from Monday.

Chris Veney (6'3 WF / West / 2019): The heart and soul of the West program, Veney had a great second half on Monday in nearly leading the Cowboys to a win. Finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, Veney had his fingerprints all over Monday's game. The 6-foot-3 forward has a terrific motor which allows him to make hustle plays on both ends of the floor. He was constantly competing on the glass as he finished off a few second chance scores. Veney also found himself in passing lanes, taking a few steals coast-to-coast. The senior also knocked down a mid-range jumper and a three from the right corner. With a big body and above-average athleticism, Veney is someone that area Division III and junior college programs should take a look at.

Sidi Aden (5'10 PG / West / 2021): In our first viewing of Aden, we came away impressed with the sophomore's toughness and handle. Aden was able to get anywhere off the dribble, even if it was primarily with his right hand, as he blew by Camara on a few finishes. Aden controlled the rock and was able to put pressure on the Westland defense, finishing with 17 points. Adding three assists, Aden alongside senior guard Taquan Webb, who finished with a game-high five assists, played a solid game in the backcourt. Look for Aden to continue to improve and develop into one of the standout lead guards in the City League South.

Sekou Maiga (6'7 PF / West / 2019): Maiga is a developing big man with plenty of upside. While only playing basketball for two years, Maiga has developed quite a bit in a short amount of time. A lengthy forward with a wiry frame, Maiga has good lift and was able to make a couple strong moves around the rim. Maiga's top play came in the second half when he ran the floor after stealing the ball near half court, euro-stepping through a defender and finishing at the rim. To be able to do that at his size and keep his balance the way he did was impressive and offered a glimpse at what he could be in a few years under the right coaching. In an area where there aren't a ton of post prospects with big upside, Maiga is someone that would be a good investment for junior colleges who will be patient with him.

Hunter Corwin (6'2 G / Westland / 2020): Corwin made good use of his time off the bench, knocking in three triples in the first half and finishing with 10 points. The 6-foot-2 junior has a quick release and can make shots from all over the perimeter. Corwin can space the floor for the Cougars and open up driving lanes for guys like Camara and Deshawn Evans.

Gaige Holbrook (5'11 SG / Westland / 2019): Holbrook was in a rhythm in the second half, scoring 10 of his 13 points after halftime. Knocking down three triples, Holbrook spaced the floor for the Cougars. While he took his fair share of shots, Holbrook was in a better groove than our last viewing of him. With Camara into the lineup now, Holbrook has operated primarily off the ball and will need to continue to shoot from the perimeter at a high clip in order for Westland to play to their potential.

Kalil Camara (6'2 CG / Westland / 2020): Camara, while plagued with foul trouble for most of the game, still had a productive showing, finishing with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. For a more in-depth look at Camara's game, take a look at Thursday's report
