Senior Jacob Koenig shines In the Pioneers win over the Panthers

MILFORD CENTER, Ohio -- Hundreds packed in to see Fairbanks take on their cross-town rival Jonathan Alder on Friday night. Alder controlled the majority game from opening tip, defeating the Panthers 57-46.

The Pioneers jumped out to a double digit lead early and kept the lead most the same for the rest of the game. The Pioneers were led by point guard and game MVP Jacob Koenig, as the 5-foot-10 senior was scorching hot early, going 5-for-5 from the floor in the first quarter, Koenig finished the contest with 22 points, shooting 9-of-11 from the floor.

The Pioneers took care of the of the ball on the offensive end, finishing with only five turnovers on the night. Fairbanks struggled to find offense all night long as no one on the team finished the game in double figures. The Panthers look to rebound as they play West Jefferson in a conference matchup next Friday.

Alder will look to ride their momentum into next week's matchup against Franklin Heights.

Jacob Koenig (5’10 PG / Jonathan Alder / 2019 )

Koenig returns to the court for the Pioneers as the lone senior on the roster.

Overall, he is a well composed guard with great ball control and a knack for creating opportunities to score for both his teammates and himself. At 5-foot-10, Koenig is able to drive into the lane and has an exceptional pull-up jumper. The four-year starter dominated from opening tip outscoring Fairbanks 12-7 in the first quarter. Even though Koenig is one of the team’s primary ball handlers, he finished the game with zero turnovers.

Henry Walker (6’6 C / Jonathan Alder / 2020)

Despite picking up two fouls in the first two minutes of play, the 6-foot-6 big man was able return mid-second quarter and take control of the paint. The lengthy center picked apart the Panthers zone-defense by playing well out of the short corner, which translated to a few big buckets for the Pioneers. One of which was a late third quarter and-one that gave Alder a huge burst of momentum heading into the forth.

Jackie Santa-Emma (5’11 PG / Jonathan Alder / 2020)

Santa-Emma is a high IQ guard with a quick first step that allows him to be effective off the drive. The 5-foot-11 junior is one of the best facilitators in his class, his passing ability gives his teammates a plethora of scoring opportunities. Santa-Emma played a huge role in his team’s victory against the Panthers, finishing the game with eight points and eight assists in the win

Braylon Green (6’3 F / Fairbanks / 2021)

The sophomore forward crashed the boards with reckless abandon, Green was able to dominate the glass when Alder post Henry Walker got into foul trouble early. The 6-foot-3 forward did a lot of the dirty work for the Panthers, and played hard for the duration of the game. His ability to rebound on both the offensive and defensive end gave him and the Panthers good opportunities to score, however they were often unable to capitalize. Green will be the ultimate x-factor for this Panthers team and will only help them improve if he continues to perform like he did Friday.
