Reynoldsburg grad and Woodstock forward Tre Williams committed to Indiana State

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio -- Sometimes all it takes is a year for your life to completely change. For Tre Williams, the last 365 days have been a whirlwind.

A year ago, Williams was a rising senior big man who had just received his first offer from Air Force after a dominant performance in the first two weeks of the 270 Hoops Fall League.

Williams, who played minimal varsity basketball his first two years at Reynoldsburg, showed flashes in a junior year that led to big expectations heading into a much-anticipated senior campaign.

The recruiting cycle did not end there for Williams. As he continued to improve, programs at every level continued to pay attention. Williams was a primetime Division II target, as powerhouse programs like Lincoln Memorial and West Liberty, fought hard for his commitment all winter and spring.

But Williams wanted more.

Knowing he was a Division I talent, Williams took the road less traveled. Betting on himself, Williams decided to join the 2019 class and do a year of postgrad prep school at Woodstock Academy, the same program that helped turn Independence grad and former Division II target Dibaji Walker into a current member of the Cleveland State basketball program.

A few months removed from leading Reynoldsburg to its first district title since 2012 in a dominant senior season, Williams embarked on an AAU summer that he will remember forever.

Playing for All-Ohio Red in the Nike EYBL, Williams took his signature motor and energy and turned it into life-changing results. Working harder than most opposing bigs in each game, Williams was one of All-Ohio's most reliable players, averaging 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds against the best competition that the country has to offer.

Division I programs at the low and mid-major level wasted no time in offering the 6-foot-7 post, as Williams experienced a recruiting explosion in July.

Receiving 14 offers in a span of 31 days, Williams was a primetime target for a bevy of programs, especially in the Mid American Conference, as reigning champion Buffalo pulled the trigger during the process.

However, Williams felt most at home with Indiana State. Offering Williams on July 29, the Sycamores stayed in touch in the months to follow. Visiting the campus nine days ago, Williams felt ready to make it official by committing to Indiana State and putting this wild recruiting cycle behind him.

Heading to a program that competes in a tough Missouri Valley Conference, Williams figures to have a chance to see early playing time for the Sycamores. An improved athlete who is only continuing to get better, Williams will bring his high-level work ethic, toughness and motor to the Division I level - and if college is anything like the last few years, there is a great chance that Williams will be successful.

Becoming the sixth prospect in the 2019 class to commit to a Division I program, Williams is the first to head to the Missouri Valley Conference. Joining Thomas Worthington's Ben Wight, whose commitment to Ohio became official earlier this week, Williams becomes yet another stud from Central Ohio moving on to the Division I level.

As we were able to see Williams' recruitment lift off at the 270 Hoops Fall League last year, we are so excited to see where his career has gone in the months since and where it is going to continue to go. Joining a program whose most famous alum is a man by the name of Larry Bird, we wish nothing but the best for Williams at Indiana State.

From your friends at 270 Hoops - you've made us proud, Tre Williams.
