LEWIS CENTER, Ohio -- Season 2 of the 270 Hoops Fall League tipped off this past Sunday at Olentangy Orange. Much like the first annual season, defense was played and the majority of games were competitive.

Let's take a look at some of the standouts from Sunday's action.

Max Martz (6'6 WF / Upper Arlington / 2019): Rode the momentum of a great fall league season last year with 22 points in Duke's opener win over North Carolina. Martz knocked down six threes and was a tough matchup all over the floor. Hard to stop when his jumper is falling, which was the case on Sunday. Penn commit. 

Paul Burris (6'6 PF / Delaware Hayes / 2020): Stretch four coming into his own this summer and fall. Burris can hit shots, finish inside with length and compete on the other end of the floor. Had 15 points on four threes in Duke's opener. One of the late blooming rising studs in the 2020 class. 

Philip Alston (6'6 PF / Westerville North / 2019): Big, physical athlete who had eight points for North Carolina in the opener loss. For a long stretch of the game, he was his team's only source of offense via inside post touches and transition leak outs. Alston has the measurables and is continuing to add to his perimeter game. Consistent motor will be what puts Alston over the top. 

Morgan Safford (6'3 SG / Bishop Hartley / 2019): Led the league in PPG a season ago and started off hot with 18 points, including 14-straight to begin the game. Safford can fill it up as well as anyone but must continue to refine his overall game to reach his potential. Can really get it going when his shot is falling, which opens up the rest of his scoring package.  

Evan Conley (6'2 PG / Fairfield Union / 2019: West Liberty commit was the only player in double figures for his Kansas team in a tough loss to Kentucky. Can control the game on both ends, knock down shots and score in transition. Due for a big senior season for the Falcons. 

Kayin Derden (6'3 SG / DeSales / 2019): A 270 Hoops event veteran, Derden did what he always does in these settings - score the basketball. He got off to a hot start on Sunday, going for 20 points in Indiana's 56-36 win over Michigan State. Derden is a plus athletically and has enough skill to score from all over. Can be really tough to stop when his motor is running. 

Dominiq Penn (6'0 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2020): Penn had a really good day on Sunday, scoring 13 points in both of Villanova's wins. A nightmare to defend when his pull up jumper is falling (which was the case on Sunday), Penn put his entire set of skills to use, operating mainly off the ball. Months removed from leading Dublin Coffman to a district championship, Penn returns to a Rocks team equipped with shooters, which will make for an interesting winter on Coffman Road. 

Tyrese Hughey (6'6 PF / Licking Heights / 2021): In terms of upside and production, Hughey checks out in both categories. Over the last few months, Hughey's motor and toughness have both improved, which has turned him into a very difficult cover from the mid-range and in. Hughey was solid in both games on Sunday as Kentucky went 2-0. The top prospect in the Licking County League and one of the elite 2021 talents, Hughey is continuing to evolve and grow into his rangy 6-foot-6 frame, which will only make him better. 

Sahmi Willoughby (6'4 SF / Reynoldsburg / 2019): A late blooming gem in the 2019 class, Willoughby had a great start to the season with 14 points in Ohio State's tight 57-53 loss to Villanova. A long athlete who is playing with great confidence, Willoughby combines that with a motor that doesn't stop. Receiving plenty of Division III attention, Willoughby could play himself into some scholarship opportunities with continued performances like last week's. 

Keaton Turner (5'10 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2020): Turner has been one of the rising studs this summer and fall and has taken the area by notice. Playing in his first 270 event, Turner impressed with his ability to score, run a team and play both ends, averaging 7.5 points in two games. Yet another talented guard in the Coffman backcourt, look for Turner to take the biggest stride of any guard on the team this winter. 

Jack Pugh (6'6 SF / Hilliard Bradley / 2021): Finally healthy, Pugh looks like the heralded prospect that he was in middle school, dominating on both ends of the floor and using his brute size and strength to bully opponents. Pugh plays with a chip on his shoulder and exerts a lot of energy on both ends, accepting challenges on defense, as he swatted a litany of shots, while leading the game in rebounds in Villanova's win over North Carolina. Pugh has a chance to evolve into the best prospect in 2021, as his toughness, motor and improving perimeter abilities make him a difficult matchup on the wing. 

Sam Towns (6'7 WF / Pickerington Central / 2019): Returning to the fall league for a second-straight year, Towns looked much improved from last year, as he gave Villanova yet another talented prospect with size and scoring ability. Towns was stellar in my viewing of him, knocking down a pair of threes and finishing through contact inside in an 11-point performance. Towns gives Pickerington Central a versatile big on the wing, which fits in perfectly with the Tigers' style of play.

CJ Anthony (6'0 PG / Harvest Prep / 2020): The last several months have been kind to Anthony, as he led Harvest Prep to the state tournament, earned his first two Division I offers and broke through as one of the elite talents in his class. Fresh off a fall league title a year ago, Anthony had his work cut out for him in leading a Michigan State team that he put on his back in the second game. Going for 17 points in a 52-49 loss to Kansas, Anthony was the best player on the floor, powering his way to the rim, knocking down shots and playing with a motor on both ends. It's hard not to like Anthony when you watch him, as he has an old school motor and does the right things each time down the floor. 

Dapreis Owens (6'3 SF / Dublin Scioto / 2019): One of the more unheralded seniors in the OCC, Owens is a talented wing who had a strong closing game in leading Ohio State to a 49-39 win over Duke. Owens plays with a good motor, can really score it at the rim and has quality size. After a junior season in which he really broke out for the Irish, Owens had a productive summer and is looking to do much of the same as a senior. We would recommend Owens to Division III and NAIA programs looking for a hard-nosed wing whose play style is very comparable to that of Von Cameron Davis.
