GAHANNA, Ohio -- When discussing a group of players on the rise in the class of 2019, one player has to be mentioned in every single conversation.

Josh Corbin.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Gahanna Lincoln is having a breakout summer with his AAU team, All-Ohio Red, and because of that more and more schools are starting to take notice.

Having been known as a shooter for most of his playing days, Corbin is starting to show a different side of him, one that should bring more colleges coming.

“I’ve already showcased to teams that I’m a good shooter,” he said. “Now I’ve got to showcase that I can run a team. I’m trying to show that I can be a combo guard that can bring the ball up and get teammates involved while still showing my shooting ability.”

Whatever Corbin is doing, it’s working.

He was able to score 30 points at the Spiece Run-N-Slam against the Spiece Indy Heat, a team that features 5-star forward Trayce Jackson-Davis. He followed that up by scoring in double figures in all four games at the Nike EYBL in Atlanta, where he was named to the All-Breakout team.

Corbin was also able to win MVP of the All-Ohio Nike Cup and has averaged a team-high 13. 7 points per game this summer in 15 EYBL games against the top teams in the country.

Because of his play and some other skills that he’s been able to show off, Corbin is starting to get a variety of looks from some big universities.

While he’s received offers from schools such as Toledo, Cleveland State, Kent State, Duquesne and Akron among others, the big schools are starting to call. Dayton, Wisconsin, Texas, Xavier, Baylor and Oklahoma State are among the many that have expressed interest in the soon-to-be senior guard.

“The recruiting process has been absolutely awesome,” he said. “It has really been a blessing to have all of these teams come and watch me and recruit me.”

While Corbin knows how fun the process has been, he understands that a decision has to come at some point.

“July is a big month in the recruiting process, so the plan is to play through July and then cut the list down to about five or six schools by the time school starts,” he said. “Hopefully I can make a decision on where I want to go at the start of school ball.”

Gahanna Lincoln runs a slower-paced offense, which could impact Corbin’s decision. He also said he’s looking to play with other shooters that can help showcase his strengths.

Ultimately, college can wait according to Corbin, because he still has his senior year of basketball left to play.

He is one of the few returning players coming back for Gahanna Lincoln, who finished the year 17-8, which he said can definitely help him show colleges a different side of him.

“We graduated seven seniors last years, so there are only two seniors returning as of now,” he said. “So I’m definitely looking forward to leading the younger kids and showing them the way and hopefully we have a successful year.”

Gahanna Lincoln suffered a close loss to Pickerington Central, the Columbus region champions, in the district semifinals last year. This has motivated Corbin, and, as with every high school basketball senior, he’s hoping his last state tournament will be a memorable one.

When all is said and done and high school ends, Corbin knows he will very likely head off to a Division I college to play basketball (and likely some more video games) and study business.

And when the process comes to a close, he can look back on this summer and really see how much he broke out and how it could change the future of his basketball career.

Corbin is coming off a strong weekend to end the EYBL regular season, which included a season-high 30 points in a win over Drive Nation. The sharpshooter knocked down 51 threes in 15 games, shooting a team-high 41 percent from beyond the arc.
