Bishop Ready improved to 10-0 with a 74-56 win over DeSales

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- When it comes to the city of Columbus, undoubtedly, the west side is most certainly the 'best side.' That is proving to be true in the Central Catholic League as well, as No. 2 (D3) Bishop Ready (10-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten in a 74-56 win over No. 9 (D2) DeSales (3-3, 0-3).

Using a 12-0 run to open up the second quarter, Ready took complete control of Friday's CCL slugfest, opening up a double digit lead and never looking back. Relying on early offense from senior guards Chanc Dawson and Brady Thomas, the backcourt duo was able to create offense all night long, while handling tight pressure with ease.

Thomas got the Silver Knights going with back-to-back pull up contested jumpers to open the game. Dawson would catch fire in the second quarter, fueling a 9-0 run by himself to go into halftime with 15 points. Thomas added 10 points at the break in a quarter where Ready outscored DeSales 20-6.

The third quarter was much of the same, as Ready opened up the second half on a 10-0 run out of the gate. Leading by as much as 26 points, Ready went into the final frame with a commanding 58-34 lead.

While sloppy play on the part of Ready in the final eight minutes would allow DeSales to get within 20 points, the Stallions could not seem to close the gap any further. Struggling to create offensively, DeSales was shut down by a physical Ready team that controlled the boards and found instant offense on the other end.

Dawson led all scorers with 23 points off the bench, adding seven rebounds, three blocks and four steals. A physical 6-foot-4 wing guard who can play both positions in the backcourt, Dawson was able to create for himself all evening, finishing strong at the rim through contact while knocking down two three-point field goals.

Thomas added 18 points and a game-high seven assists, controlling the tempo on both ends of the floor.  A proven floor general with three years of starting varsity experience, Thomas is one of the most accomplished point guards in the 2018 class, while also one of the toughest. Hitting a handful of contest pull up jumpers and getting to the rim through tight pressure and contact, Thomas put on a clinic on Friday,

Junior forward Cade Canter played a terrific game in the post, finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds. Fellow junior forward Jaishan Norris added nine points for the Silver Knights, while freshman guard Darius Parham put in excellent reserve minutes, adding five points and six rebounds.

For DeSales, junior guard Anthony Sciarroni was the lone player in double figures, finishing with 11 points. Eight additional players scored between four and seven points, as the Stallions struggled to find consistent offense. Junior wing guard Kayin Derden finished with eight points, but was blanketed by pressure from Ready all game long.

A bright spot in a tough loss on Friday for DeSales was the play of freshman wing Desmond Watson. While finishing with six points and five rebounds, Watson looked the part physically and made several strong moves to the basket, while playing superb defense on the other end. Watson is the future of this Stallions program and is a name to remember in the 2021 class.

Out to its best start in more than 20 years, Ready has taken control of the Central Catholic League, as it stands alone at the top. The Silver Knights can go undefeated in the first round of CCL league play next Friday as it heads to Bishop Watterson. Already defeating three of four division opponents, Ready controls its own destiny from here on out in the CCL.

For DeSales, the Stallions will look to bounce back with a tough road matchup at No. 11 (D1) Walnut Ridge on Saturday.
