Wellington abused Whitehall on the glass in a Thursday road win

WHITEHALL, Ohio -- Honoring legendary coach Russ Gregg on Thursday, Whitehall hosted Wellington in a cross-divisional showdown in the Mid-State League. While Whitehall fans were able to reminisce on the immense success of Gregg's storied coaching career with the Rams, Wellington would steal the thunder out of the antique gym named after the longtime coach in a 66-55 road win.

Leading the way for Wellington in a game where the Jags dominated Whitehall on the glass was none other than senior forward Noah Berry. The tallest player on the floor for the majority of the night, Berry played the best game of his career, finishing with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Berry nearly out-rebounded Whitehall by himself, as Wellington enjoyed a 43-19 advantage on the glass.

In a game that was close for most of the night, Whitehall was able to keep it within a few possessions behind talented senior guard Reiko Bagley. Knocking down six threes, Bagley stretched the Wellington defense all night long in a 24-point performance. Knocking down a three from near Steph Curry range to end the third quarter, Bagley would narrow the Wellington lead to 52-46 heading into the final frame.

From that point forward, Whitehall wasn't able to get any closer than seven points, as Wellington closed out the game with precise execution and excellent ball movement. With Berry dominating on the interior and Whitehall senior post Tyjuan Childers in foul trouble for the majority of the night, Wellington was able to force the Rams out of the paint on both ends of the floor.

Three players scored in double figures for Wellington outside of Berry with senior guard Bob Faller adding 15 points and five assists. Running the same five man rotation for the majority of the game, Wellington was aided with a combined 28 points and 19 rebounds from seniors John Faller and Solomon Pierre-Louis. The Air Force signee Pierre-Louis played an excellent all-around game, adding nine rebounds and six assists to his 14 points. Faller notched a double-double, adding 10 rebounds.

Getting the start with the absence of junior guard Dallas Patrick, freshman guard Marcus Stewart added five points in extended minutes.

For Whitehall, Bagley was the source of nearly half of the Rams offense. Scoring all of his points from behind the arc in the second half, Bagley showed off a quick trigger and consistent outside jumper against a quality Wellington defense with lots of length.

The only other Whitehall player to add more than five points on the night was freshman wing Royal Sibly, who finished with seven points off the bench. The 6-foot-4 Sibly is an intriguing prospect going forward, as he offers great length, solid athleticism and a growing skill set.

With the win, Wellington registers its best win of the season on the road against a top 15 Division I program. The Jags are off for more than a week until a tough road matchup against No. 5 (D1) Westerville North on Dec. 30. Wellington will not play another home game until Jan. 16.

For Whitehall, the Rams must rebound quickly as a road matchup at Ironton awaits on Friday.
