A look at the top scorers in the 2019 class thus far in the season

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- We continue our 'Bucket Getters' series with a look at the junior class. While usual suspects like Olentangy Liberty's Ben Roderick and South's Tre Watkins, who broke onto the scene as sophomores, remain among the elite in the area, there are several new names putting in great minutes on the hardwood.

Let's take a look at the best scorers in 2019 through three weeks.

1. Ben Roderick (6'6 G, Olentangy Liberty) - 30 PPG

After leading the entire class in scoring as a sophomore, Roderick has taken his game to an entirely new level this winter. Averaging 30 points per game, Roderick opened up the season with a career-high 37 points against Mentor, just two weeks after his football season ended, coincidentally against Mentor, too. Roderick has grown to 6-foot-6, has put on some extra muscle to finish through contact, while still having his signature silky smooth style of play. Roderick is a legitimate three-level scorer that can fill it up from all over the floor.

2. Sean Marks (6'0 G, Olentangy) - 24.8 PPG

Not many juniors have made a rise quite like Marks has. A stock riser in every sense of the term, Marks is having a brilliant season thus far for the Braves, averaging just under 25 points per game. Marks began the season with back-to-back 30+ point performances in wins over Marion Harding and Mansfield Madison. A tough all-around point guard that just gets the job done, Marks has been the most impressive at his position in 2019 thus far. Marks was one of the key members to his team's championship season in the 270 Hoops Fall League, and was named MVP of the championship game.

3. Brady Snyder (6'0 G, Canal Winchester) - 17.7 PPG

Snyder broke out onto the scene as a sophomore and hasn't wasted any time making his mark this winter. Averaging just under 18 points per game, Snyder has been the go-to scorer for Canal Winchester, as the Indians greatly rely on the 6-foot guard to get buckets. Snyder has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, with two 25+ point performances in the last two weeks. A tough shot maker that can create for himself, Snyder will need to continue to score it in high levels to help Canal Winchester compete in an OCC-Capital division that has no elite teams.

4. Tre Watkins (5'11 G, South) - 17 PPG

Coming in right after his brother, Tamal Watkins, who was recently inducted into the South High Hall of Fame, Tre Watkins is doing a great job of carrying on the family legacy. After leading the Bulldogs to a City League championship last season, Watkins is looking to do something only his brother had accomplished at South in the last 25+ years - win a district title. Thus far, Watkins is playing some high-level basketball, averaging 17 points per game and leading the charge for a South team that will be one of Division II's elite when the district tournament rolls around. After relying on his outside shot a little too much as a sophomore, Watkins has improved as a scorer on the drive and is finishing through contact at a higher rate.

5. Terin Kinsway (6'5 F, Delaware Hayes) - 16.7 PPG

One  of the most physically imposing players in his class since the moment he stepped on the floor as a freshman, Kinsway is enjoying his best season yet. Averaging just under 17 points per game, Kinsway has been a force both on the glass, in the paint and on the wing for Delaware Hayes. A hard-nosed kid that can really mix it up on the block, Kinsway is receiving interest from some of the elite Division II programs in the region.

6. Payton Collins (6'7 C, Bishop Hartley) - 16.2 PPG

Collins may just be the top breakout prospect in 2019 this winter. A big 6-foot-7 post with lots of skill, Collins has looked very impressive in our two viewings of him this winter, going for 20+ points and 10+ rebounds in both games. With a strong frame that Collins uses to rebound and stand his ground inside, the junior big man also has an ability to step out and hit shots from the perimeter. Look for Collins' recruitment to really blossom this spring and summer as he will be running with Roderick and Nova Village.

7. Tronny Keaton (5'10 G, Marion-Franklin) - 15.8 PPG

In an otherwise forgettable season for Marion-Franklin, one bright spot for the Red Devils has been the emergence and play of Keaton. A talented guard who can really shoot it, Keaton has been impressive for Marion-Franklin, averaging just under 16 points per game. While Marion-Franklin has struggled to score for most of the season, Keaton has been the only source of consistent offense for the Red Devils.

8. Jimmy Patton (6'5 F, Bishop Watterson) - 15.7 PPG

While most Central Catholic League games are known for its slow pace and low scoring, Patton has had no problem scoring the ball at a high level for Bishop Watterson. Putting up just under 16 points per game, Patton has rose to the occasion as of late for the Eagles. Patton's performance last Friday in an upset win at DeSales, including scoring eight of his 13 points in a momentum-changing third quarter, was the key to Watterson's victory. With solid length and above average athleticism, Patton is a prospect to keep track of in 2019.

9. Josh Corbin (6'3 G, Gahanna) - 15.2 PPG

There may not be a more dominant scorer when in the zone than Gahanna's Corbin. A deadeye shooter that can really punish a defense when he gets hot, Corbin has been 'the guy' for the Lions thus far. Averaging just over 15 points per game, Corbin has stepped up his play for Gahanna, going for 24 points twice in big wins over Reynoldsburg and Whitehall. While Corbin has always been a terrific shooter, he must continue to work on his scoring off the bounce to really evolve as an all-around stud scorer.

10. Josh Osei (6'3 G, Licking Heights) - 15.2 PPG

A breakout player in the class in 2019, Osei has been key to Licking Heights' turnaround this year. Helping the Hornets get off to a 4-2 start, including 3-0 in Licking County League play, Osei has led his team in scoring at just over 15 points per game. A lanky wing who excels at getting to the rim, Osei has been productive in every game, posting double figures each time out. Osei is a name to remember going forward as Licking Heights has its best team in the last few years, due in large part to his play.
