A look at the latest power rankings in each division

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- While last week may have offered the first set of league games across each division, not much changed atop the power rankings in Division I, II and III. In Division I particularly, the top seven teams remained the same, while the top three in Division II and III remained unchanged.

Let's break down each division heading into Christmas this weekend.

Division I

The Top Three

1. Pickerington North (2-2, 2-0)

Last Week: Defeated #9 Gahanna, 54-40.

This Week: Tuesday vs. Westland, Friday vs. Lancaster, Saturday vs. Marion-Franklin

Outlook: Pickerington North improved to 2-0 in league play in a dominant showing vs. No. 9 Gahanna, even with its top player in Jerome Hunter suspended for that game. The most impressive area team thus far, Pickerington North looks to have a real chance to make a run for a state title once transfers Corey Baker and Ross Ryan are ready to go. The Panthers get out and can defend as well as anyone in the state, which mixed with its length, size, athleticism and versatility, make this team a real threat. Pickerington North has the personnel to be able to play small, play big, or play long, as the Panthers can mix and match its rotation without losing much of a step. Three highly favorable home games await as the Panthers will more than likely improve to 5-2 by this time next week.

2. Hilliard Bradley (4-0, 1-0)

Last week: Defeated Cincinnati LaSalle, 46-36

This week: Tuesday vs. Worthington Kilbourne, Friday vs. Dublin Jerome

Outlook: The Jaguars are still finding their offensive footing without senior leader and point guard Braden Norris, but Bradley has still been able to defend at an elite level. While the Jags may not have as much offensive firepower as they may have anticipated this season, Bradley can still flat out shoot it, as senior Isaiah Speelman became the program's all-time leading scorer in last Saturday's win vs. LaSalle in a solid 17-point performance. Two league games await this week as Bradley will look to remain undefeated.

3. Upper Arlington (4-0, 2-0)

Last week: Defeated Hilliard Davidson, 45-27. Defeated Chillicothe, 61-33.

This week: Friday at Westland

Outlook: Upper Arlington has yet to be seriously challenged this season, as the Golden Bears have rolled through its first four games. Refusing to allow teams to eclipse 50 points in any game this season, Upper Arlington may still go awhile without a challenge as the Golden Bears only have one game this week - a road matchup at Westland, who was defeated by 69 points vs. Dublin Coffman on Friday. In a watered down OCC-Central division this year, the Golden Bears may seriously only be challenged by the aforementioned Rocks.

Stock Risers

Westerville Central #15 --> #8

Westerville Central was the only team to move up this week, as the Warhaws rise seven spots, mainly due to the losses of every team above them. Westerville Central registered a nice win at home over previously unbeaten and No. 12 Olentangy Orange on Friday, 60-50. Sitting at 4-1, Westerville Central's only loss came by a single possession against No. 5 Westerville North earlier in the month. A tough matchup vs. No. 14 Olentangy awaits on Friday, as Westerville Central is looking to defend home court once again.

This Week's Top Matchups

#1 (D2) Beechcroft at #7 Northland - Friday, 7 PM

In a matchup that will have a huge impact on the race for the City League North title, Beechcroft looks to take down Northland on the road. Northland still has not lost to an existing program in its division since 2006, as the Cougars are looking to snap that streak on Friday.

#11 Reynoldsburg at #4 Pickerington Central - Friday, 7:30 PM

Reynoldsburg heads to Pickerington Central in a matchup that may be closer than what some are predicting. The Raiders have played every opponent close this year, dropping a tough one to No. 6 Dublin Coffman on Saturday, 56-53. Reynoldsburg can make a major statement and stay alive in the race for the OCC-Ohio on Friday. Pickerington Central will look to make a statement and prove that it is still among the very elite in the area, even without star junior guard Jeremiah Francis.

#14 Olentangy at #8 Westerville Central - Friday, 7:30 PM

Another intriguing matchup awaits in an OCC-Buckeye division that is arguably the best in the area from top to bottom. With six solid teams, the Buckeye division offers its top matchup at Westerville Central on Friday. Olentangy is looking to notch its first league win, while Westerville Central will look to keep rolling at home.

#6 (D3) Wellington at #15 Whitehall - Thursday 7:30 PM

Wellington continues an absolutely rugged non-conference schedule with a matchup at Whitehall on Thursday. The Jags have played five tough games to begin the season, dropping three of those games to top opponents. Wellington will have to prove that it wasn't simply scheduling losses in the non-conference by beating a Whitehall team led by super senior Reiko Bagley.

# PRE Team Record SOR Points This Week

Division II

The Top Three

1. Beechcroft (5-0, 2-0)

Last week: Defeated Centennial, 96-61. Defeated Whetstone, 105-49.

This week: Tuesday at #5 Linden-McKinley, Friday at #7 (D1) Northland

Outlook: Beechcroft has been a straight bully for the first five games, putting up an average of 92.9 points per game and outscoring opponents by 182 points in those games. With five players averaging between 12 and 23 points per game, Beechcroft has been an offensive juggernaut thus far. Challenging road games against Linden and Northland await this week as Beechcroft will have a chance to take a commanding lead in the City League North. Two wins this week would set the Cougars up nicely as both the Panthers and Vikings would have to win on the road at Beechcroft later in the season in order to get back into contention for a league title.

2. Eastmoor (3-0, 2-0)

Last week: Defeated #7 Independence, 81-49. Defeated Briggs, 69-39. Defeated Cincinnati Purcell Marian in double OT, 70-66.

This week: Tuesday vs. #3 South, Friday at #2 (D3) Africentric, Saturday vs. Dayton Dunbar

Outlook: An all-out challenging week awaits for Eastmoor, as the Warriors have three difficult games in a span of five days. With its home opener coming against No. 3 South on Tuesday, this game will have a major impact early on in the race for the City League South. Taking down the Bulldogs in its last two matchups, including in the Division II district title game last March, Eastmoor is looking to make that three in a row. The matchup at No. 2 (D3) Africentric is also challenging, as the Nubians have been as good as anyone offensively and have a roster that matches up well with what Eastmoor has. If the Warriors can go 3-0 this week, look for Eastmoor to have a chance to climb atop the Division II rankings.

3. South (4-0, 2-0)

Last week: Defeated Walnut Ridge, 77-67. Defeated Marion-Franklin, 103-47.

This week: Tuesday at #2 Eastmoor, Friday at West

Outlook: South rolled through last week, capitalizing on an 18-2 run in the second half at Walnut Ridge on Tuesday in a 77-67 victory. The Bulldogs one upped that performance a few days later in a dominant showing at home vs. Marion-Franklin. Winning its first four games by an average of 32 points per game, South has yet to be challenged this season. All of that changes on Tuesday in a road matchup at No. 2 Eastmoor. The Warriors have South's number as of late, however, the Bulldogs have won the last two matchups on Eastmoor's home floor. South can notch its best win of the season in what will be a huge challenge against an Eastmoor team with tons of size.

This Week's Top Matchups

#1 Beechcroft at #7 (D1) Northland - Friday, 7 PM

#3 South at #2 Eastmoor - Tuesday, 7 PM

A big battle of City League South powers on Tuesday at EA. South will look to remain in control of the division while exacting revenge on an Eastmoor team that ended its season last year. The tables have turned in Eastmoor's favor this season, as the Warriors just have to beat South once and sweep the rest of the league in order to represent the South division in the City League Championship. Eastmoor can take a step in that direction on Tuesday.

#2 Eastmoor at #2 (D3) Africentric - Friday, 7 PM

No rest for the weary here, as Eastmoor will have to move on from Tuesday's mega matchup vs. South in a road matchup at No. 2 (D3) Africentric on Tuesday. While Eastmoor and South were the talk of the division all offseason long, Africentric is quietly putting together a strong start to the year behind seniors Tre Baumgardner and Jah Bennett. Africentric is not a team that anyone in the City League should sleep on this season, as the Nubians are looking to make a statement vs. Eastmoor on Friday.

#1 Beechcroft at #5 Linden-McKinley - Tuesday, 7 PM

Before Beechcroft heads to Northland on Friday in a game that is guaranteed to be a sellout, the Cougars must first take care of business against a tough Linden team. The Panthers are coming off a tough loss at Northland and are looking for revenge against a Beechcroft team that should take this game as seriously as any other.

#6 Bishop Hartley at #10 DeSales- Friday, 8 PM

Another big Central Catholic League rivalry resumes on Friday as DeSales hosts Bishop Hartley. Both teams are coming off unexpected losses last Friday, as Bishop Ready took down the Hawks by 20, while Bishop Watterson upset the Stallions at home. Look for this to be a big bounce back game for each team.

Division III

The Top Three

1. Harvest Prep (2-0, 2-0)

Last week: Defeated Fairfield Christian, 115-37

This week: Tuesday vs. Berne Union

Outlook: Harvest Prep absolutely embarrassed Fairfield Christian in a 78-point win on Friday. The Warriors will look to keep rolling in a favorable matchup vs. Berne Union at home. Harvest Prep has been dominant through two games, as the scoring duo of senior CJ Penha and sophomore CJ Anthony have been as good as any in Division III.

2. Africentric (4-0, 2-0)

Last week: Defeated Marion-Franklin, 89-53. Defeated #7 (D2) Independence, 70-60.

This week: Tuesday vs. West, Friday vs. #2 (D2) Eastmoor, Saturday vs. Greenup County (Ironton)

Outlook: Africentric has quietly been putting together a great start to the season, as seniors Tre Baumgardner and Jah Bennett are playing the best basketball of their careers. The Nubians will look to notch a signature win at home vs. No. 2 (D2) Eastmoor on Friday in a game that could have major implications in the City League South. A day later, the Nubians head to the Ironton Classic to take on Greenup County out of Kentucky.

3. Bishop Ready (6-0, 2-0)

Last week: Defeated Central Crossing, 65-62. Defeated #5 (D2) Bishop Hartley, 68-48. Defeated Shekinah Christian, 71-45.

This week: Saturday vs. #10 Pleasant

Outlook: Bishop Ready just keeps on winning. Off to a roaring start at 6-0, the Silver Knights have notched impressive wins over league opponents St. Charles and Bishop Hartley. While Hartley was missing three starters due to injury on Friday, Ready took care of business in a way that a team with more depth and talent that night should have. With no games until Saturday, Ready looks to improve to 7-0 with a home matchup against No. 10 and 3-1 Pleasant.

This Week's Top Matchups

#2 (D2) Eastmoor at #2 Africentric - Friday, 7 PM

#9 (D2) Bishop Watterson at #5 Grandview Heights - Saturday, 7:30 PM

In an intriguing matchup at Grandview on Saturday, Bishop Watterson comes to town after taking down No. 9 (D2) DeSales last Friday. The Eagles offer a tough matchup to an undefeated Grandview Heights team that is looking to stay hot.

#10 Pleasant at #3 Bishop Ready - Saturday, 2 PM

Two upstart programs in Division III that are playing great basketball, this could be the best game in the area on Saturday, all things considered. Pleasant sits at 3-1 with its only loss coming by a single point against No. 4 Northmor to open the season. Ready hasn't played the toughest schedule up to this point, as this game will be big for the Silver Knights to prove that they belong among the elite in Division III.

#6 Wellington at #15 (D1) Whitehall - Thursday, 7:30 PM

# PRE Team Record SOR Points This Week
1 1 Harvest Prep 2-0 2 vs. Berne Union

8 10 Elgin 5-0 1 @ Ridgedale, vs. West Jefferson
9 9 Johnstown 3-4 4 @ Watkins Memorial
