COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After helping Westerville South two trips to the State Final Four in three seasons, Wildcat big man Kaleb Wesson has been named the 2017 Mr. Ohio Basketball on Wednesday by the Associated Press.
Wesson led the Wildcats to a third straight Ohio Capital Conference championship this season, averaging 22.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. The future-Buckeye also scored 49 points in a road loss at Upper Arlington this year, arguably his best performance all year.
Wesson won the crown of Mr. Basketball by snagging four of the seven votes, with the other three votes split among Kyle Young from Massillon Jackson (2 votes), and Justin Ahrens (1 vote).

Kaleb Wesson is the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2017 class. A burly 6-foot-10 post committed to Ohio State, Wesson is the area's most dominant low-post player, helping lead Westerville South to its first-ever state championship in 2015-16. With soft touch, soft hands, and an ability to not only bang inside and score, but knock down shots from mid-range and three-point range, Wesson is a classic big man with skill.
