St. Charles held Hilliard Davidson to a season-low 19 points on Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Holding No. 14 Hilliard Davidson to just 12 total points after the first quarter, No. 8 St. Charles dominated its way to its first district title in 22 years in a 37-19 win on Saturday.

After Hilliard Davidson upset defending state champion Westerville South in the district semifinals, St. Charles would be sure to stop the Cinderella run for the Cardinals, dominating on every side of the ball to take home the district.

Leading 17-7 after a quarter of play, St. Charles would hold tight the rest of the way out, leading by double-digits for most of the second half in an 18-point victory.

With a major size advantage in the post, senior center Nick Muszynski led the way with six points, 13 rebounds, three assists and a block. Out rebounding Hilliard Davidson by himself, Muszynski set the tone on the glass, while the rest of St. Charles picked up the slack elsewhere.

Senior guard Braden Budd and senior wing Tavon Brown each scored 12 points, while junior wing George Javitch added five points, eight rebounds and three assists. Enjoying a 34-11 advantage on the glass, St. Charles steamrolled its way to the regional tournament for the first time since 1995.

For Hilliard Davidson, only three players would score on the night, as sophomore forward Patrick Preece led the way with 10 points. Senior guard Travis Moore, who was the hero of the district semifinals, would add seven points.

With the win, St. Charles advances to the regional semifinals to take on top-seeded Pickerington Central on Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at Ohio Dominican. In a game that will be a contrast of styles, St. Charles will look to keep the dream season rolling against the almighty Tigers.
