Every top seed advanced to the sectional finals in D2 tourney action on Monday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With tournament action tipping off in Division II in Central Ohio on Monday, there would be no upsets to rule the headlines. As all top-seeded teams won in rather convincing fashion on Monday, there wouldn't be many surprises in Columbus, if at all. Let's take a look at all the games.

CJ Prater's 28 points and 11 rebounds lead Whitehall over nearby rival East

Coming in as the top-rated point guard in the 2017 class in the area, Whitehall senior CJ Prater did not disappoint in leading the Rams to a tight 55-51 win over East in sectional semifinal play.

Going for a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds, Prater sparked an 11-0 run in the third quarter that helped Whitehall take control of Monday's game. Despite trailing 22-20 at half, Whitehall's pressure in the third quarter would prove to be pivotal, as the Rams held East without a single point in the first six and a half minutes of the third quarter.

Holding tight in the fourth quarter, Whitehall turned up the pressure when it mattered most, not allowing East to get any closer than two points. Prater knocked down two key threes in the fourth quarter, each time putting Whitehall up five points to stunt any type of East comeback.

In the end, Prater's efforts were enough to lead Whitehall into the sectional finals where the Rams will travel to No. 6 Bloom-Carroll on Friday.

Outside of Prater's 28 points, Whitehall received consistent offense from junior 6-foot-6 post Tyjuan Childers, who finished with 14 points and five rebounds. No other Whitehall player scored more than five points, as the Rams heavily relied on Prater on Monday.

For East, junior wing guard Justin Curtis led the way with 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Curtis did a terrific job of penetrating the line and finding open teammates, however East would struggle at converting from the field. Freshman guard Talik Lee was very solid off the bench, finishing with 14 points on four three-point field goals.

Alex Will's 27 points powers Bishop Watterson over surging Bexley

At the Central District tournament draw, Bishop Watterson was awarded the No. 12 seed despite their record being well below .500. With high praise from the other area coaches, No. 12 Watterson lived up to that as they took down a No. 16 Bexley team that was hot coming into Monday, 55-39.

In a low scoring game that had a halftime score of 19-18, both teams needed a spark that could lean the game in their favor. Bishop Watterson  senior guard Alex Will would provide just that for the Eagles, as he poured in 19 second half points. Finishing with 27 points, Will was dominant enough to push Watterson over the edge.

In a game that was chippy at times, Will seemed to feed off it.  Will's intensity was matched  by his teammates as they turned it up on defense in the second half, outscoring Bexley 36-21.

Bexley was led by senior guard Simon Kroos, who finished with 13 points.

With a sectional semifinal win in hand, Watterson moves on to the sectional finals to take on No. 9 Jonathan Alder on the road on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Fourth quarter surge powers No. 10 Linden-McKinley over No. 21 Amanda-Clearcreek

Trailing 34-32 heading into the fourth quarter, No. 10 Linden-McKinley won its second-straight sectional semifinal at home, putting together a 16-7 fourth quarter to take down No. 21 Amanda-Clearcreek, 48-41.

Junior guard Damon Prater led the charge for the Panthers, scoring a game-high 18 points, including four three-point field goals. Trailing at the end of the first three quarters, Linden-McKinley pulled through when it mattered most, advancing to the sectional finals where it will take on No. 4 Bishop Hartley on Thursday at 7 p.m.
