Upper Arlington doubled Watkins Memorial's score in a 60-30 win on Thursday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Top seeded teams would not have no issues in the opening round of tournament action in Division I on Thursday. Let's take a look at the three tournament games in Central Ohio.

No. 2 Newark 84, No. 43 Whetstone 38

No. 2 Newark (22-1) kicked off tournament action in style, jumping out to a 22-4 first quarter in a blowout win over No. 43 Whetstone (4-19). Seven players scored at least eight points for Newark, as junior wing JT Shumate led all scorers with 14 points. With the win, Newark advances to play No. 46 West at home on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

No. 4 Upper Arlington 60, No. 39 Watkins Memorial 30

No. 4 Upper Arlington (21-2) held No. 39 Watkins Memorial (9-14) without a field goal in the first quarter in a blowout 60-30 win at home. In a night where the area's leading scorer Dane Goodwin seemed to be out of a rhythm, the Golden Bears would not be deterred. As Watkins Memorial got within nine at 27-18 early in the third quarter, Upper Arlington would respond with a 14-2 run to end the quarter. Sophomore wing Max Martz led all scorers with 20 points. Upper Arlington advances to play No. 41 Hilliard Darby at home on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

No. 6 Westerville South 93, No. 45 Franklin Heights 32

Behind a 25-0 first quarter, No. 6 Westerville South had no problems with No. 45 Franklin Heights in a 93-32 win at home. Knocking Franklin Heights out of the tournament for the second year in a row, Westerville South had three players in double-figures, led by14 points from senior wing Antoine Smith. With a relatively easy path to the district finals, Westerville South returns to the floor on Feb. 28 to play No. 44 Big Walnut.
