COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A great night for Columbus hoops awaits on Friday. With several rivalry games on tap, there will be no shortage of quality hoops in Central Ohio. Let's take a look at our picks for Friday's games.
A battle for Central Catholic League supremacy is on the line at St. Charles on Friday. There are many similarities between each team, as both are led by a senior trio of a Division I big, scrappy guard and versatile wing. This one should be a great game coming down to the wire.
In the OCC-Ohio, the league's best rivalry is back as Pickerington Central travels to take on Gahanna. While the Tigers have looked like the best team in the area for most of the season, Gahanna has struggled a bit, but has rallied to win two straight games. In order for Gahanna to win, the Lions will have to hit perimeter shots, force turnovers and get a boatload of scoring from Jordan Mitchell. Otherwise, we see Pickerington Central taking this one on the road.
In the Mid-State League, the biggest game of the season tips off between Bloom-Carroll and Fairfield Union. Two teams undefeated in league play, Fairfield Union is looking to build on what has been a terrific first half of the season. For Bloom-Carroll, the Bulldogs are looking to take control of the MSL on the road. This could go either way.
In the City League North, Northland heads on the road to take on Beechcroft. The two favorites in the league heading into the season, Beechcroft has stumbled a bit, losing two league games already. However, the Cougars have rallied and have played great basketball as of late. For Northland, the Vikings are looking to continue a dominant stretch in the league by taking down the Cougars on the road.
The best rivalry in the OCC-Central tips off again at Upper Arlington on Friday. The Golden Bears are looking to distance themselves even more from the rest of the division with a win at home against Dublin Coffman. For the Rocks, Coffman is looking to notch its biggest win of the season and shake up the Central. We see Upper Arlington's scoring prowess and experience being too much for a young Coffman team that is still evolving.
