For the first time all season, there is a new top-ranked team in D1

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For the first time all season, there is a new sheriff in town in Division I. After picking up two top five wins last week, including delivering previous No. 1 Westerville South its first home loss in three years, Pickerington Central is the top team in Division I.

Let's take a look at the new Division I Power Rankings in Central Ohio.

#1

Record: 9-0

Ranked Wins: 5

Last Week: Defeated #1 Westerville South, 62-57. Defeated #5 Reynoldsburg, 61-46.

This Week: Tuesday vs. Westerville Central, Friday vs. #13 Grove City, Saturday vs. Wheeler (GA) at Flyin' to the Hoop

Outlook: Pickerington Central picked up two of the best wins in Central Ohio this season in a span of three days. Winning at Westerville South on Tuesday, the Tigers became the first team to do that in three years. Pickerington Central then turned around and took down Reynoldsburg behind a huge second half charge on Friday. Undefeated at 9-0, the Tigers have two winnable games this week before a showdown against national powerhouse Wheeler on Saturday at Flyin' to the Hoop. The good news? Impact transfers Jah Blevins and Javohn Garcia are ready to go for Flyin' to the Hoop, which makes an already elite team even more dangerous. This just might be Pickerington Central's year.

#2

Record: 9-1

Ranked Wins: 4

Last Week: Lost vs. #2 Pickerington Central, 62-57. Defeated #19 Olentangy Orange, 56-34.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #7 Reynoldsburg, Friday vs. Cathedral Prep (PA) at Burger King Classic, Saturday vs. TBD at Burger King Classic.

Outlook: Taking its first home loss in three years, Westerville South rebounded in the Calo Cup against Olentangy Orange on Friday. The Wildcats have another challenging week ahead as a home matchup vs. No. 7 Reynoldsburg looms on Tuesday. Two teams that should match up well, look for that to be a great game. Then Westerville South hits the road for the Burger King Classic in Erie, PA, where it will play Cathedral Prep and the winner of Paul XI (VA) and Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph.

#3

Record: 11-0

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Defeated #16 Grove City, 70-47. Defeated Big Walnut, 81-39. Defeated Mount Vernon, 63-44.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #21 Lancaster, Friday vs. #12 Groveport

Outlook: Newark has the longest winning streak in the area and has played dominant basketball all season long. Winning all but one game by double-digits, the Wildcats' schedule will get much tougher over the next month. Six of Newark's next eight games are against ranked opponents including a matchup vs. Westerville South on Jan. 28, before playing at Pickerington Central the following Saturday. There are some that feel Newark is the top team in the area, as the Wildcats will have every chance to prove it in the next few weeks. Before that, however, Friday's home matchup vs. Groveport will decide first place in the OCC-Capital.

#4

Record: 8-1

Ranked Wins: 1

Last Week: Defeated Linden, 69-51. Defeated #4 Upper Arlington, 47-44.

This Week: Tuesday at International, Friday at East

Outlook: Northland made a statement with a win over No. 4 and previously undefeated Upper Arlington on Saturday. With nothing but City League matchups over the next six games, Northland has a chance to run the table before squaring off against Pickerington Central on Jan. 28. Realistically, there are only two games left on Northland's schedule that pose a legitimate challenge for the Vikings.

#5

Record: 10-1

Ranked Wins: 3

Last Week: Defeated #13 Dublin Jerome, 53-36. Defeated #15 Delaware Hayes, 55-35. Defeated Fairland, 64-42.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #25 Dublin Scioto, Friday at Hilliard Darby, Saturday vs. Beavercreek at Flyin' to the Hoop.

Outlook: The highest it has ever been ranked, Hilliard Bradley has played tremendous basketball this season. Winning nine-straight games, Bradley has a promising week ahead, where it can realistically win all three games. In its games this week, juniors Braden Norris and Isaiah Speelman outscored the opposing teams both times. Two wins this week and a win at Flyin' to the Hoop would have the Jaguars at 13-1 and rolling into a fairly manageable rest of the season.

6. Upper Arlington (4)

Record: 9-1

Ranked Wins: 3

Last Week: Defeated Olentangy, 52-37. Defeated Westland, 60-37. Lost vs. #7 Northland, 47-44.

This Week: Tuesday at #10 Westerville North, Friday at Marysville, Sunday vs. Garfield Heights at Flyin' to the Hoop

Outlook: Upper Arlington took its only loss of the season in an all-out war vs. Northland on Saturday at The Challenge at Africentric. The Golden Bears can redeem themselves quickly on Tuesday at No. 10 Westerville North in a game that will be a challenge for Upper Arlington. Without a true signature win against an elite team in the area, Tuesday will be big for Upper Arlington. Sunday offers a tough matchup against an athletic and guard-led team in Garfield Heights at Flyin' to the Hoop.

7. Reynoldsburg (5)

Record: 10-2

Ranked Wins: 6

Last Week: Defeated New Albany, 60-50. Lost at #2 Pickerington Central, 61-46. Defeated Zanesville, 66-43.

This Week: Tuesday at #2 Westerville South, Friday vs. #9 Pickerington North

Outlook: After peaking at No. 5 the last few weeks, Reynoldsburg takes a step back after a tough loss on the road at Pickerington Central. The Raiders can storm back up the rankings if they can take down No. 2 Westerville South on the road on Tuesday. If that wasn't enough, Reynoldsburg then gets a matchup at home vs. No. 9 Pickerington North three days later. With matchups against the No. 1 player in 2017 and No. 1 player in 2018 this week, Reynoldsburg will have its hands full.

8. St. Charles (8)

Record: 10-1

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Defeated Watterson, 59-42. Defeated Beechcroft, 61-59.

This Week: Friday at Bishop Hartley

Outlook: St. Charles has won 10-straight games dating back to Dec. 9 and enters the thick of the CCL season. The Cardinals have two games over the next 11 days, with a road matchup at Bishop Hartley this Friday before a huge home game against DeSales on Jan. 20. If St. Charles can get past Hartley and DeSales over the next two weeks, there is a chance the Cardinals could have yet another 20-win season as only one Division I team remains on the schedule.

9. Pickerington North (9)

Record: 9-3

Ranked Wins: 4

Last Week: Defeated #17 Dublin Coffman, 66-50. Defeated #20 Lancaster, 67-53. Defeated Africentric, 74-51.

This Week: Tuesday at #12 Groveport. Friday at #7 Reynoldsburg. Sunday vs. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary at Flyin' to the Hoop

Outlook: Pickerington North is red-hot at the moment, winning seven-straight games. The Panthers will take that winning streak on the road this week, as North heads to No. 12 Groveport on Tuesday before a tough matchup at No. 7 Reynoldsburg on Friday. The Panthers turn around and head to Kettering on Sunday for a matchup against Northeast Ohio power Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary. Stuck at No. 9 for the last few weeks, the Panthers can climb up the rankings with a 3-0 week.

10. Westerville North (11)

Record: 8-2

Ranked Wins: 4

Last Week: Defeated #25 Marysville, 79-54. Defeated #12 Olentangy Liberty, 59-57. Lost vs. Eastmoor, 71-68.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #6 Upper Arlington, Friday vs. Watterson

Outlook: Westerville North's eight-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday at The Challenge, which came a day after the Warriors went on the road and gutted out a tough win at No. 12 Olentangy Liberty. In the top 10 for the first time this season, Westerville North can prove it belongs with a tough non-league win vs. No. 6 Upper Arlington on Tuesday.

11. Dublin Jerome (13)

Record: 9-3

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Lost vs. #6 Hilliard Bradley, 53-36. Defeated Hilliard Darby, 52-39. Defeated Washington Court House, 61-36.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #15 Delaware Hayes, Friday at #25 Dublin Scioto

Outlook: Through 12 games, Dublin Jerome has started off about as good as it could've asked for considering the Celtics graduated three 1,000 point scorers from last season. While balanced offense can be hard to come by at times for Jerome, the Celtics have three-straight league games against quality opponents that they will need to win.

12. Groveport (10)

Record: 10-2

Ranked Wins: 3

Last Week: Lost vs. Central Crossing, 62-57. Defeated New Albany, 53-50.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #9 Pickerington North, Friday at #3 Newark, Saturday at Granville

Outlook: Groveport limps into its toughest week of the season after suffering the biggest upset of the year in Division I last Tuesday before barely surviving a New Albany team with three wins. With a home matchup against former division foe Pickerington North on Tuesday, Groveport then has to refocus and head to Newark on Friday in a showdown for first place in the OCC-Capital. We will find out if Groveport is a contender or pretender this week.

13. Grove City (16)

Record: 7-4

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Lost vs. #3 Newark, 70-47. Defeated #14 Gahanna, 72-66.

This Week: Tuesday at #23 Central Crossing, Friday at #1 Pickerington Central, Saturday at Watterson

Outlook: A senior laden team that has been pretty solid up to this point in the year, Grove City has another big week on its hands. The Greyhounds head to rival Central Crossing on Tuesday for a ranked showdown, before heading to No. 1 Pickerington Central on Friday. The best case scenario for Grove City this week would be to go 2-1, which would put them in a good spot after 14 games in the year.

14. Gahanna (14)

Record: 6-5

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Defeated #12 Olentangy Liberty, 66-45. Lost at #16 Grove City, 72-66.

This Week: Tuesday vs. New Albany, Friday at #21 Lancaster. Sunday vs. Thurgood Marshall at Flyin' to the Hoop

Outlook: It's January 9th. Gahanna and Central Crossing both are 6-5 with two ranked wins. If you predicted that, raise your hand. Now put your hand down because you're a liar. A young team still figuring itself out, Gahanna can pick up momentum this week with three winnable games. A 3-0 week would do Gahanna good heading into a home matchup against No. 1 Pickerington Central on Jan. 20.

15. Delaware Hayes (15)

Record: 8-4

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Defeated #21 Worthington Kilbourne, 61-59. Lost at #6 Hilliard Bradley, 55-35.

This Week: Tuesday at #11 Dublin Jerome, Saturday at #16 Hilliard Davidson

Outlook: Delaware is a team quietly sneaking under the radar this season. One win away from matching their entire win total from last season, the Pacers have a big week coming up with two tough road games against top 20 opponents. Delaware could really help its standing in the OCC-Cardinal with a win at Jerome.

16. Hilliard Davidson (18)

Record: 5-3

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Defeated #19 Olentangy Orange, 45-28. Defeated Central Crossing, 52-32.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #17 Olentangy Liberty, Friday at Westland, Saturday vs. #15 Delaware Hayes

17. Olentangy Liberty (12)

Record: 6-4

Ranked Wins: 0

Last Week: Lost vs. #14 Gahanna, 66-45. Lost vs. #11 Westerville North, 59-57.

This Week: Tuesday at #16 Hilliard Davidson, Friday at Westerville Central, Saturday at New Albany

18. Canal Winchester (22)

Record: 8-3

Ranked Wins: 1

Last Week: Defeated Franklin Heights, 55-51. Defeated Teays Valley, 52-43.

This Week: Tuesday vs. Westland, Friday at New Albany

19. Thomas Worthington (23)

Record: 5-5

Ranked Wins: 1

Last Week: Defeated Dublin Scioto, 52-42. Defeated Centennial, 52-44.

This Week: Tuesday vs. Hilliard Darby, Friday at Worthington Kilbourne, Saturday vs. #24 Olentangy

20. Dublin Coffman (17)

Record: 4-5

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Lost at #9 Pickerington North, 66-50. Defeated #25 Marysville, 77-74. Lost at Olentangy, 88-80.

This Week: Tuesday vs. #22 Olentangy Orange, Friday vs. #23 Central Crossing, Saturday vs. Toledo Scott

21. Lancaster (20)

Record: 6-5

Ranked Wins: 0

Last Week: Lost vs. #9 Pickerington North, 67-53

This Week: Tuesday at #3 Newark, Friday vs. #14 Gahanna

22. Olentangy Orange (19)

Record: 5-5

Ranked Wins: 1

Last Week: Lost at #18 Hilliard Davidson, 45-28. Lost at #1 Westerville South, 56-34.

This Week: Tuesday at #20 Dublin Coffman, Friday at #25 Olentangy

23. Central Crossing (NR)

Record: 6-5

Ranked Wins: 2

Last Week: Defeated #10 Groveport, 62-57. Lost at #18 Hilliard Davidson, 52-32. Defeated Hamilton Township, 57-50.
