WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Heading into halftime trailing Westerville Central 23-18, Upper Arlington was getting beat at its own game, as the host Warhawks slowed the tempo and executed at a high level.

What Westerville Central did not have, however, was Dane Goodwin, who equalled the Warhawks' scoring in the second half to lead Upper Arlington to a 54-47 overtime win on the road.

Jumping out to an 8-4 advantage through the first four minutes of the game, Upper Arlington would allow a 9-3 Westerville Central run, as the Warhawks took a 13-11 lead into the second quarter. The Warhawks would control Wednesday's non-conference contest during the middle quarters, leading by five at half.

The Warhawks would increase its lead to six points, holding a 33-27 advantage with 33 seconds to go in the third quarter. As has been the story for the Warhawks all season, its slim lead could not be sustained, as Upper Arlington put together a 7-0 run to take a 34-33 lead with 5:39 remaining behind Goodwin.

In the next minute, four lead changes would ensue, as neither team was able to take more than a two-point lead. Trailing 41-39 with 1:23 to go, a would-be And-1 score from junior forward Terrance Lang was waved off for Westerville Central, giving Upper Arlington possession with a lead.

UA would not convert on the next trip, as Westerville Central tied Wednesday's contest with a pull-up jumper from the free throw line by junior point guard Thomas Hickman. Goodwin missed a fadeaway jumper on Upper Arlington's last possession, sending the game into overtime tied at 41.

In its third overtime game of the season, Westerville Central could not get over the hump, as Goodwin's 11 overtime points gave Upper Arlington the surge it needed. Goodwin slammed the door shut with an And-1 score toward the end of the game, leading Upper Arlington to a 54-47 victory.

Leading the Golden Bears with 33 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, Goodwin was absolutely dominant in his second 30-plus point, 13-plus rebound game in less than two weeks.

Scoring 24 of Upper Arlington's 36 points in the second half, Goodwin dominated on the interior, finishing an assortment of inside drives through contact. When the Golden Bears needed Goodwin to take over, the Ohio State commit answered the bell, helping UA remain unbeaten on the season.

Outside of Goodwin, sophomore wing Max Martz added eight points, but battled foul trouble for most of the game. Senior point guard Jordan Bailey finished with seven points, while no other Golden Bear scorer added more than four points.

For Westerville Central, Lang led the way with 10 points as the Warhawks fell to 0-3 on the season in overtime. Hickman added nine points, while junior forward Cam Schroeder was solid off the bench, finishing with eight points and four rebounds.

With the win, Upper Arlington improves to 4-0 on the season and is off until Dec. 27 when it travels to Pittsburgh for a holiday tournament.

Westerville Central falls to 1-4, with its four losses coming by a combined margin of 11 points. The Warhawks will look to get back to its winning ways  a week from Wednesday at home vs. St. Charles.
