Pickerington Central senior Sterling Manley had a double-double on Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- 270 Hoops was all over town this weekend, covering more than half a dozen games across Columbus. Let's take a look at the top performers that we watched on opening weekend of the season.

Jeremiah Keene (So. PG, Westerville North)

The talented sophomore guard Keene was terrific in a Saturday win over Bowman Academy (IN). Keene handled the ball like an elite point guard, making several tough passes and hitting shots from all over. All in all, Keene finished with 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists. When Keene is hitting outside shots, it makes him that much more of a dangerous weapon, as his ball-handling and quickness are already high level.

Sterling Manley (Sr. C, Pickerington Central)

In his first official game since last season, Manley looked the part of a high-major post, dominating Saturday's game on both ends of the floor vs. Bowman Academy. In a game that was never really close, Manley's impact inside was felt at all times, as the North Carolina signee finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Elijah Thomas (So. SG, Gahanna)

On a Gahanna team that had nearly a half a dozen top performers, we were really impressed with the sophomore guard Thomas. Coming off the bench to score a game-high 15 points in the Lions' win over Chicago Von Steuben, Thomas knocked down shots, got to the rim and made things happen on both ends. With solid length and upside, Thomas is a prospect to keep an eye on at Gahanna.

Kaleyl Edwards (Sr. C, Walnut Ridge)

Coming to Walnut Ridge this season via St. Charles, Edwards is a great addition for the Scots' front court. A thick 6-foot-5 post who can score through contact underneath, Edwards was the key for the Scots in a tough win over Cincinnati Hughes. Helping Walnut Ridge establish a first half lead, Edwards was effective for the majority of the game, finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Landon Martin (Sr. SG, Africentric)

In a game that feels like it happened a hundred years ago, Martin was dynamite in Africentric's road win at Wellington. Finishing with 25 points, five rebounds and six assists, Martin made the plays necessary to deliver a big win against the reigning Division IV regional champ. Keep an eye on Martin this season in the Africentric backcourt.

Dustin Harder (Sr. C, Wellington)

In a tough loss to Africentric, Harder was as good as can be, stretching the floor and knocking down four threes to finish with 18 points. Harder, who stands at 6-foot-9, also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a few shots inside. Committed to Division II Belmont Abbey, Harder looked the part of an elite level big man on Friday.

Datrey Long (Jr. SG, Beechcroft)

Leading one of the best backcourts in the Columbus City League, Long had a day against East Cleveland Shaw, finishing with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Long did a great job at leading the Cougars in transition, as he was a menace on defense and a force on offense. With his athleticism and knowledge of the game, Long is going to one of Beechcroft's true leaders this winter after breaking out as a sophomore last season.

Jay Joseph (Sr. SF, Worthington Christian)

In a tough defensive battle on Saturday night, Jay Joseph shined for Worthington Christian, as he tallied 15 points and collected seven rebounds in his team's win against Bloom Carroll. Joseph played tough-nosed defense all game long and took charge in late game situations, and his ability to create shots was crucial as there weren't many opportunities for open shots. Joseph looks to be the leader for the Warriors in this upcoming season, as Worthington Christian looks to have a strong season as one of the top Division II teams.

Quentin Jones (Sr. PF, Northland)

In the most anticipated game of the night featuring two highly talented teams, Northland senior Quentin Jones was the biggest difference on defense as he contained highly touted Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph's 6-foot-8 sophomore star Alonzo Gaffney. Jones finished with 10 points on the night and grabbed six rebounds. While his stat line may not be startling, his defense played the biggest difference in his play, forcing Gaffney to take bad shots and was in his face all night. Jones is going to be a force in the post this year in the City League with his large athletic frame and ability to move well. Look for Jones and the Vikings to make some noise this year, if they play as well as they did on Saturday in big games for the rest of the winter.

Antoine Smith Jr (Sr. SF, Westerville South)

Although he’s already the eighth-ranked player in our 2017 class, Westerville South’s Smith looked like an extremely improved version of himself from last year. Knocking down four threes en route to a game-high 20 points, the senior really impressed on both ends of the floor. For the ‘Cats to make a repeat appearance in the OHSAA Final Four, Smith will have to continuously bring forth an effort like he did in South’s dismantling of rival Westerville North on Friday.

Ethan Novy (Sr. G, Olentangy Liberty)

While on the topic of presence from beyond the arc, Olentangy Liberty’s Ethan Novy certainly fits the bill of someone with the ability to knock down the three ball. Hitting six threes on Saturday afternoon, the senior guard helped lift the Patriots to a key road win over Grove City.
