12 players scored for Gahanna in a 78-37 win on Saturday

GAHANNA, Ohio -- All prior doubts about Gahanna for this season should be thrown in the recycle bin. While the Lions may not have a whole lot of experience, they sure do have talent, and Gahanna used all of it in a 78-37 plastering of Chicago Von Steuben on Saturday.

With 12 different players scoring for the Lions on Saturday, Gahanna turned a 7-0 deficit early in the game into a 41-point drubbing behind its second unit. Going on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter, Gahanna's bench was dynamite for the duration of Saturday's game, combining for 42 points.

Using its deep rotation of guards, Gahanna's speed and pressure was too much for its visitors from the Windy City, as the Lions forced 20 steals on the afternoon. Behind a 28-point second quarter, Gahanna went into halftime leading 41-20.

Gahanna would not let loose in the second half, as junior wing Nate Ward and sophomore guard Elijah Thomas provided the scoring for the Lions in the final two periods.

The Lions were led by sophomore guard Josh Corbin, who finished with 13 points and six steals. Corbin got the Lions going, knocking down three triples in the first half to bust Saturday's game open. Thomas added a team-high 15 points off the bench, while Ward finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Do-it-all sophomore wing guard Jordan Mitchell was effective in limited action, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior big man Mike Reeves added eight points and five rebounds off the bench, providing length and an inside presence for Gahanna's second wave of guards.

For Von Steuben, senior guard Ralphy Cruz was the lone bright spot, finishing with a team-high 10 points and nine rebounds.

With the win, Gahanna moves on to an intriguing matchup vs. Westerville South on Monday at home. Losing to Westerville South in the regional final this past season, Gahanna will be looking for revenge behind its deep rotation of talented underclassmen.
