COLUMBUS, Ohio -- High school basketball has officially began and we already have an upset on our hands. Let's take a look at the top games from Thursday's opening night of action.
In a primetime Division II showdown at Johnstown on Thursday, the No. 8 Johnnies started off the season on a thrilling note in a 43-41 win over No. 1 DeSales. Leading the way for Johnstown was senior post Kyle Matoszkia, who scored a game-high 19 points.
After being held to 11 first half points, Johnstown outscored DeSales 32-17 in the second half to secure a huge win. For DeSales, senior big man Caden Sanchez led the way with 16 points.
No. 4 Bloom-Carroll held home court in a 62-53 win over Chillicothe. Leading the way for the Bulldogs were seniors Matt Smith and Gavin Brown, who combined for 36 points. Bloom-Carroll established a 34-25 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Dublin Jerome rolled over Marion-Franklin at home on Thursday, cruising to an 86-43 win. Leading the way for the Celtics was senior point guard Zach Watson, who led all scorers with 19 points. Watson was joined in double-figures by seniors Kyle Burrier and Eddie Anders, who combined for 27 points. For Marion-Franklin, Zaire Porter and Jaylon Williams each scored team-high 10 points.
Olentangy began the John Feasel Era with a resounding 65-49 win on the road, as sophomore guard Sean Marks scored a career-high 27 points. Olentangy established a 15-point lead at half and never looked back, as the Braves received strong scoring performances from Marks and senior guard Jason Sieve, who added 14 points.
For Marion Harding, senior guard Jason Ellis with 17 points, while Elisha Browley added 13 points of his own.
