We present to you the 270 Hoops Thanksgiving Feast

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The day has arrived. It's time to stuff your face with turkey and take the most glorious of naps afterward. But before you do that, take in the 270 Hoops Thanksgiving Feast. While all of our conference previews have been published, we still have some additional preseason coverage to get to. Feast your eyes on 270 Hoops just a week before the start of the season.

Preseason Awards

270 Hoops Senior of the Year - Kaleb Wesson

Wesson is our 270 Hoops Senior of the Year. Fresh off leading Westerville South to a state championship, Wesson is back for more. Wesson will be the focal point of the Wildcat offense, which could lead to some huge production from the 6-foot-10 center.

Other candidates: Sterling Manley (Pickerington Central), BJ Duling (Newark), Nick Muszynski (St. Charles), Caden Sanchez (DeSales), Zach Watson (Dublin Jerome), Dibaji Walker (Independence), Danny Corbett (Briggs), Brandon Waugh (Northland), Will Yoakum (Delaware), Lony Francis (Groveport)

270 Hoops Junior of the Year - Dane Goodwin

Goodwin is the 270 Hoops Junior of the Year. After turning up the heat in a run to a district title last season, Goodwin took his red-hot shooting to the AAU circuit all summer long. The outright No. 1 option in the Upper Arlington offense, Goodwin has a chance to put up huge numbers and lead the Golden Bears to an OCC-Central title.

Other candidates: Jerome Hunter (Pickerington North), Ross Ryan (Centerburg), Isaiah Speelman (Hilliard Bradley), Adrian Nelson (Pickerington Central), Cameron Brooks-Harris (Zanesville), Braden Norris (Hilliard Bradley), Jejuan Weatherspoon (Northland)

270 Hoops Sophomore of the Year - Jordan Mitchell

Mitchell is the 270 Hoops Sophomore of the Year. As the most experienced player in the Gahanna lineup, despite only being a sophomore, Mitchell has a chance to really make his mark on Central Ohio. One of the most highly recruited players in the area, Mitchell will need to have a tremendous season in order to lead the Lions to another OCC-Ohio title. The 6-foot-7 sophomore will be tested early and often this winter.

Other candidates: Jeremiah Francis (Pickerington Central), Jeremiah Keene (Westerville North), Max Martz (Upper Arlington), Terin Kinsway (Delaware), Ben Roderick (Olentangy Liberty), Josh Corbin (Gahanna), William Mfum (Northland)

270 Hoops Freshman of the Year - Dominiq Penn

Penn is the 270 Hoops Freshman of the Year. One of the most advanced guards that we have ever seen, Penn is the No. 1 option in Dublin Coffman's backcourt. As good in the pick and roll game as any guard in Columbus, regardless of class, Penn is a devastating shooter with great quickness. Penn could reasonably end up being Coffman's leading scorer this season.

Other candidates: Marcus Johnson (South), Von Cameron Davis (Walnut Ridge), Matt Allocco (Hilliard Bradley), Chris Mayfield (Hilliard Bradley), Josiah Fulcher (Pickerington Central), Dominic Farley (West), Qian Magwood (Walnut Ridge)

Predictions

Zach Fleer's District Champion Predictions

On paper, the Tigers are the most talented team in Central Ohio. Will that translate to the court? I think so. Pickerington Central has guards, wings and bigs, and all of them can play. Sterling Manley is the most important piece for the Tigers, as he gives them a dominating post presence that will be key in a deep tournament run.

(regional champion)

Westerville South returns to the court with a huge target on their backs. As defending state champions, the Wildcats have a lot to replace, but still have a lot of talent remaining. Kaleb Wesson is the centerpiece for the Wildcats, but do not sleep on seniors Antoine Smith and Anthony Mills. With as good of a top three as anyone, it will be guys 4-9 that make the most difference in deciding just how good this Wildcats team can be.

With a ton of experience returning, Newark is a popular pick in the area to win a district title. Behind BJ Duling, the Wildcats have one of the toughest matchups and most athletic players on the wing and in the post, surrounded by a group of seniors who embrace their roles and will do anything to win.

Upper Arlington is my darkhorse team to make a very deep run in the postseason, as the Golden Bears return a talented roster. Led by Dane Goodwin, Upper Arlington has one of the state's absolute best scorers. Goodwin will be aided by sophomore forward Max Martz, who is emerging as a premier prospect, while senior point guard Jordan Bailey, who will be able to play in the second half of the season, could make the most difference.

Jason Morrow's District Champion Predictions

Normally after losing two Division I stars, any sort of success would be welcome, but then again Pickerington Central is not normal. There are too many players and too much talent to keep the Tigers from getting to the Sweet 16, and I think they will make their second trip to the Schott in the last five years as well.

(regional champion)

Westerville South also understands what it is like to lose some star talent, but they also return some key pieces as well. Another Wesson-Buckeye connection is in the fold, with Kaleb Wesson leading the charge for the Cats. Pickerington Central is my favorite, but do not be surprised by an Ed Calo-coached team in March making some noise.

Nobody in Central Ohio has more wins as a program than Newark, and the Wildcats will continue that winning tradition this year. They are returning the highest percentage of their scoring total from last year of any team, and although the new OCC division will not challenge them like the Ohio would, they will still be a tough out in March.

I really hope that we get an Upper Arlington-St. Charles district final, because I think that a game like that will help folks appreciate winning on both sides of the ball. Either way, St. Charles has the senior leadership and scoring inside that wins games in March, and I do not doubt the Cardinals can do it.

Conor Crotty's District Champion Predictions

With arguably the most talent and depth of any team in the central Ohio area, they will be tough to compete with game in and game out. With 6-foot-11 North Carolina signee Sterling Manley commanding their post, the Tigers will return to reclaim their title as district champions. Pickerington Central has a ton of young talent to work with and a bench deep enough to take on anyone in the area.

(regional champion)

The Wildcats will return back to defend their district title with the leadership of senior Ohio State signee Kaleb Wesson. With the help of seniors Anthony Mills and Antoine Smith, Westerville South will be tough to dethrone until proven otherwise. Coach Calo has been doing it for a long time, and knows what it takes to take a team far.

Coming of a great year last year, Ohio State commit Dane Goodwin will be looking to have a breakout year this upcoming season. With the help of sophomore Max Martz and the young group surrounding the Golden Bears, UA will be a tough out come tournament time and will reclaim their district title.

After losing in a close-fought battle with Dublin Coffman last year in the district semifinals, the Cardinals will be looking for any way possible to go further than last year. With the leadership of three returning seniors, especially in 6-foot-8 Hillsdale signee Tavon Brown and 6-foot-11 Belmont signee Nick Muszynski, look for St. Charles to do some damage this year and make some noise come March.

Zach Fleer's 5 Bold Predictions

  • Pickerington Central will go throughout the entire regular season without losing more than a game. Despite playing in the OCC-Ohio and in some of the highest marquee non-conference matchups, the Tigers will rise above those challenges and head into the postseason with an impressive resume.
  • Kaleb Wesson will average 25 points and 15 rebounds per game. The most dominant post presence in the area, there is not another big man matchup in Wesson's division on the same playing field as him. With that being said, we see Wesson putting up monster numbers for Westerville South this season.
  • Dominiq Penn will lead Dublin Coffman in scoring as a freshman. With the ability to score from every spot on the floor, Penn is as tough of a point guard matchup as we have seen. Getting the keys to the Rocks program from Day 1, look for Penn to put up big numbers this season.
  • Walnut Ridge will win another City League South title despite losing nearly all of its production to graduation. The Scots may be young, but they do not lack for talent and depth. I am picking Walnut Ridge to win the City League South and challenge for a City title for the fourth-straight season.
  • DeSales will win the Central Catholic League and a Division II state title. The Stallions have the most depth of any team in the CCL and Division II. With that being said, I see them using that wealth of talent to make a run to the Division II state title behind its strong senior class.
