Jerome Hunter is the new No. 1 in 2018

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After the graduation of a deep and talented 2016 class that sent 11 players to the Division I ranks, the 2018 class looks to be the next great one down the line in Central Ohio. We have expanded our 2018 rankings to 90 players, which can be found here.

Let's take a look at the top prospects and classes in 2018.

Top Prospects

1. Jerome Hunter (6'7 SF / Pickerington North)

Jerome Hunter has been one of the Midwest's top prospects since the end of last season.  A statewide commodity as a freshman and sophomore, Hunter broke onto the national scene during the AAU season and his stock has exploded ever since. Hunter holds a dozen offers, with top schools like Xavier, Florida, Ohio State, West Virginia, Purdue, Michigan and Dayton extending scholarships since May. At 6-foot-7, Hunter has great length, versatility, and feel, while developing a consistent motor over the last eight months. Hunter's offensive skill set continues to blossom, which has made him a near impossible matchup when his outside shot is falling, which it has consistently as of late. When it's all said and done, Hunter could turn into a top 50 prospect at a blue-blood program. He has that type of upside.

2. Dane Goodwin (6'5 SG / Upper Arlington)

For as good of a summer as Hunter had, Goodwin was not far behind, if at all. Leading All-Ohio Red to a Peach Jam title, Goodwin was terrific in the spring and summer, taking his high-efficiency play to the EYBL ranks. A knockdown shooter who can score from just about anywhere with consistency, Goodwin is as skilled as they have come on the wing in recent memory. With great size and quality athleticism, Goodwin has takeover ability and a bulldog mentality inside of him that helped him lead Upper Arlington to a district title this past season. Goodwin could be due for another breakout year, as he could reasonably average 25 points or more this season. Goodwin enters his third high school season as an Ohio State commit.

3. Ross Ryan (6'8 PF / Centerburg)

A steady presence at No. 3, Ryan is still one of the highest upside post prospects in Ohio. With good feet, good hands and a solid feel, Ryan played a big part in the Peach Jam title for All-Ohio Red. Ryan's skill level in the post is nothing to sneeze at, as he is still developing, but has a chance to be very good at the next level. Ryan can stretch the floor out to 18 feet, but is best served around the basket where he uses his post hook shot to score.

4. Eli McNamara (6'8 PF / Pickerington North)

Another breakout player of the last six months, McNamara has emerged as one of the very elite forward prospects in the area. At 6-foot-8, McNamara has length, athleticism, great feet and great hands to go with a skill set that is ever expanding. McNamara has a devastating spin move through traffic, can consistently hit perimeter jump shots and the athleticism to come down the lane and lower the boom. Stony Brook saw that potential when they offered McNamara last month. We don't expect it to be McNamara's last Division I offer.

5. Isaiah Speelman (6'6 SF / Hilliard Bradley)

At No. 5, Speelman comes in after a solid summer as well. Running with OBC, Speelman was very good on the AAU circuit, as his skill level, polish and unselfishness caught the eye of scouts and coaches. One of the most productive players in the class since his freshman season, Speelman has separated himself with his toughness, inside and outside scoring ability, and a play style that is truly unlike any other in the class. Speelman reminds us of a European style wing player, who has the skill and IQ to play every position, and the toughness and athleticism to be effective against any defender.
