Dublin Coffman PG Dominiq Penn is No.1 in 2020

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- New Ranking season is here. We kick off our new ranking coverage with a look at the 2020 class. Scouting the top players in this class over the entire course of the fall, something became very apparent for us - 2020 is really, really good at the top.

Check out the entire 2020 rankings here.

Top Prospects

Starting off with our No. 1 prospect, Dublin Coffman point guard Dominiq Penn, 2020 has a big-time lead guard on its hands. Penn emerged this fall at Coach Vic's Weekly Showcase, proving to be one of the event's best guards, and even won the All-Star Sunday Skills Challenge, despite being the only underclassman. Penn is an elite shooter who can score off the dribble, off the catch and shoot, and on the drive. An elite ball-handler with great IQ and control, Penn is the best freshman guard that Coffman has ever had, as the 5-foot-10 floor general has already received a Division I offer from Stony Brook.

At No. 2, we have South swingman Marcus Johnson. At 6-foot-3, Johnson is the best athlete in the class. With elite bounce, Johnson is a force around the basket, showing terrific elevation and finishing ability. Johnson reminds us a lot of a young JD Weatherspoon, as his skill set is still coming along, but his athleticism alone makes him a dominant player. Johnson will get a ton of offensive rebounds and second-chance scores in the half court, while being a devastating finisher in the open floor. Johnson picked up an offer from Maryland-Eastern Shores earlier in the fall.

At No. 3 is the Pickerington Central wing guard Josiah Fulcher. Fulcher may end up being the best prospect in the class, as he offers great upside, outside shooting ability and improving athleticism. At a program that produces elite wings like Chevy produces trucks, Fulcher has a chance to be very, very good in the coming years. The freshman wing has shown an ability to score in bunches, flashing takeover ability and a confidence and belief to his game. Fulcher will be utilized by Pickerington Central this season, as the Tigers will need his outside shooting off the bench to add to an offense that is already loaded with firepower.

At No. 4 is Walnut Ridge combo forward Von Cameron Davis. Another Coach Vic's standout, Davis showed no fear in attacking the rim against older and elite competition. Terrific from 15 feet and in, Davis can get to the basket and finish, while also showing flashes of post game, as the freshman has good feet and hands. Davis will be an instrumental piece early for Walnut Ridge, as perimeter skill development over the next three years will turn Davis into a legitimate Division I prospect. Davis has a long frame that he is still filling into, as his body at this stage reminds us a bit of a young Andre Wesson. In Davis, we see a kid who loves basketball and will work hard to reach the level we see for him.

Coming in at No. 5, we have Hilliard Bradley forward Chris Mayfield. A powerfully built wing that affects the game on every level, Mayfield is the type of athletic perimeter presence that Hilliard Bradley has needed for a few years. Mayfield is a strong downhill slasher that has the quickness, strength and athleticism to finish inside, while also showing to be a skilled passer with steady vision. Mayfield has the build and skill set of a younger Khalil Iverson, as we think he could turn into that type of prospect over the next few years.
