Beechcroft's Datrey Long was one of the day's best performers

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In day two of the Ohio State Team Camp, we checked out a few teams that were missing in Friday's action. Starting off with a cast of Beechcroft rising juniors, let's see who stood out on the home floor of the Buckeyes.

Datrey Long (6'1 SG - Beechcroft - 2018):

Getting to the rim at will, Long was instrumental in a big Beechcroft win over Gahanna. A dynamic wing guard that can really score the ball, Long is part of a really talented 2018 class for the Cougars, that includes guard Jelani Simmons, who was out for Saturday's win. Getting out on the break and punishing the Lions in transition, Long put an exclamation point on Saturday's win with a powerful slam in transition late in the game. Look for Beechcroft to seriously compete for a City League North title this winter.

Isaiah Speelman (6'6 SF - Hilliard Bradley - 2018):

In a tough loss against a long and athletic Evanston (IL) squad, Speelman was impressive as a scorer, knocking down perimeter shots and finishing inside. Arguably the most efficient player in Central Ohio's 2018 class, Speelman still flies relatively under the radar compared to other top rising junior prospects. Regardless, Speelman could see his first Division I offer come soon, which will really accelerate his recruitment.

Therron Jennings (6'3 PF - Beechcroft - 2018):

One of the more productive rising juniors in the City League, Jennings is as solid as they come underneath. In the win vs. Gahanna, Jennings played with great toughness and grit, finishing several shots near the rim and rebounding with authority. Part of a punishing Beechcroft starting unit with size, strength and speed, Jennings will be relied upon to be the Cougars' bully underneath.

Elijah Bishop (6'4 SF - Beechcroft - 2018):

Seeing Bishop for the first time on Saturday, we really liked his length, versatility and aggressiveness as a slasher off the wing. Giving Beechcroft great energy, Bishop showed flashes of being a multi-level scorer, but was best served attacking the basket and using his long arms to finish. The type of wing forward that the Cougars need to compliment its pieces in the backcourt and front court, Bishop could really help Beechcroft this season.

Chase Rankin (5'10 PG - Gahanna - 2018):

One of the better point guards that we watched all afternoon, Rankin was impressive running the Gahanna offense and scoring when he needed to. A skilled ball-handler that can create space and knock down the mid-range pull-up jumper, Rankin gave Beechcroft all they could handle, helping to keep the game close until rising sophomores Jordan Mitchell and Josh Corbin caught fire late. On a Gahanna team that returns just one player with starting varsity experience, Rankin, among with 10+ other first-year varsity players, will have a chance to really become a major part of the program in 2016-17.

Matt Allocco (5'6 PG - Hilliard Bradley - 2020):

A player that we have heard a lot about for years, it was nice to check out Allocco at the varsity level against a very good Evanston (IL) team on Saturday. The rising freshman handled the ball well against pressure, knocked down two three-point jumpers, and smoothly ran the Bradley offense the way the Jags like to operate. Allocco will start from day one, as Bradley looks to be one of the very best teams in Central Ohio this winter.

While not putting up large scoring performances, several players checked out in other categories. In Beechcroft's win over Gahanna, we really liked rising sophomore center Na'elle Simmons, who at 6-foot-6, is becoming a dominant rebounder underneath, securing position and snatching everything against a Gahanna unit without a true post presence.

Part two of Hilliard Bradley's stud freshmen duo, wing Chris Mayfield was very impressive on the defensive perimeter and as a slasher. At 6-foot-1, Mayfield has a very muscular and mature build, and was able to drive through contact and score. Mayfield's athleticism and activity level will help a Bradley team that needs a junkyard dog like him.
