Teays Valley's dominant second half pushed them to a sectional final win over DeSales by a score of 64 to 42 on Saturday afternoon. After a tight first couple of minutes, the Vikings started pulling away a the end of the first period thanks to back-to-back baskets by senior Kennedy Younkin.  After one period, they held an 18-11 lead.

A quick three by Kenyetietta Quinn pulled the Stallions within four to start the second quarter but this is as close as DeSales would get for the rest of the game. Teays Valley started picking apart the DeSales zone and scored with ease from all three levels. Gabrielle Watkins sank two threes in the quarter to push TV's lead and spread the defense, allowing for easier baskets inside the paint. After two periods, the Vikings commanded a 29-18 lead.

Teays Valley cranked up the defensive pressure to start the third period which proved to be too much to handle for DeSales. They held the Stallions to just eight points in the frame while scoring 13. Alyssa Horsley and Younkin scored four each to help the Vikings to a 47-28 lead with one quarter to play.

The fourth featured back and forth runs from both teams but the effort was too little, too late for the Stallions. Watkins and Alyssa Horsley led the Vikings with 15 each and Tessa Horsley added 12. Bridget Womber scored 12 for the Stallions in the loss.

Teays Valley advances to the district semifinals to take on #10 Dublin Jerome on Wednesday at 7 pm at St. Charles.

#10 Dublin Jerome 50, #22 Thomas Worthington 24

Dublin Jerome and Thomas Worthington split their matchups during the regular season but Jerome left no questions in Saturday's sectional semifinal matchup. Jerome dominated in for nearly the entire game. The Celtics outscored the Cardinals 18-9 in the first period and did so by spreading the wealth. Senior Lauren Ludwig led with six points and Kadence Conley, Angel Ezirim, and Elliana Baker each scored four. Thomas Worthington struggled to get quality looks and only converted on one field goal in the first quarter.

The Cardinals started to settle in in the second, making four shots from the floor. Three scores in a row by Sacoya Jackson, Triniti Hendricks and Liz Rohrbacher to start the second trimmed the Jerome lead to just four points. The Celtics responded with a 7-0 run ignited by a three from Kendall Baird. Thomas Worthington outscored the Celtics 9-8 but the damage was already done and heading into halftime, Jerome held a 26-18 lead.

Jerome came out of halftime on a mission. They turned up the defensive pressure and held the Cardinals scoreless until the 0:46 mark of the third period when Jackson converted two free throws. Yet again, Jerome spread their scoring amongst Baker, Conley, Ludwig and Ezirim. With one quarter to play and a trip to the district semifinals in their sights, Jerome maintained a 37-20 lead.

Conley continued and capped off her spectacular night with a personal 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter, putting the game out of reach for good. The Celtics cruised to a 50-24 final score.
