Four teams remain undefeated after another week of conference play

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Week two of conference play is in the books and if we've learned anything, it's that most of the leagues will have a race to the finish line.

Below is a recap of all the notable action in the OCC from the past week and upcoming games to keep your eyes on.

OCC Buckeye

The Week That Was: A couple notable non-conference games kicked off the week for the Buckeye division, which started with Pickerington Central handing Dayton Chaminade Julienne a 63-45 defeat, while Groveport Madison lost to Bishop Hartley 67-61 on Tuesday. Then on Friday, division play took a week off, but featured some close outcomes amongst Buckeye members. Reynoldsburg squeaked by Dublin Coffman 62-58, Newark escaped Olentangy Berlin 55-53 and Gahanna survived Pickerington Central 62-58 in overtime. After they experienced losses on Friday, Lancaster bounced back from their defeat to New Albany and beat Mifflin on Saturday, while Groveport Madison overcame a 20-point loss to Grove City and gave Canal Winchester a 30-point victory on Saturday as well.

The Week Ahead: Depending on when you're reading this, two high profile out-of-area games will have taken place on Sunday over at Capital University for the 5-C Classic. Pickerington Central will be challenged by the defending state Division IV champion, Richmond Heights, while Reynoldsburg plays Cleveland St. Ignatius, a top team from that region. Tuesday welcomes a couple interesting non-league games, as Newark hosts Olentangy Liberty while Lancaster welcomes Bishop Watterson. Friday has the league game of the week when Reynoldsburg travels to Newark, as the winner looks to take a 2-0 lead into conference standings. Saturday concludes the week when Pickerington Central takes on DeSales.

OCC-Capital

The Week That Was: Delaware Hayes was the standout team, as they started on Tuesday with a 56-48 win over Marysville followed by the game of the week, a last second 59-58 road victory over league contender Westerville North on Friday. Dublin Scioto also had a strong week, which began with a two-point win over rival Worthington Kilbourne on Friday then a five-point win over Hilliard Darby on Saturday. Big Walnut had perhaps a not-so-surprising upset over Westerville South Friday concluded with a three-point win over New Albany on Saturday.

The Week Ahead:  Delaware Hayes leads the division at 2-0, with everyone else at 1-1, except for Canal Winchester who is 0-2. We'll be treated to a double dose of league action this week, which should allow for some separation in the standings. Tuesday is headlined by Westerville North visiting Westerville South, while Worthington Kilbourne heads to Delaware Hayes. On Friday, Kilbourne hosts Big Walnut while South welcomes Hayes. Dublin Scioto plays the most intriguing non-league game, as they visit district-rival Dublin Jerome on Saturday.

OCC-Cardinal

The Week That Was: It was not a kind week for the Cardinal division, which exclusively played non-league games. Only two teams picked up wins, Hilliard Darby had a one-point edge over Central Crossing and Thomas Worthington defeated DeSales. Otherwise, we saw Darby lose to Orange, Marysville lose to Hayes and Hilliard Davidson, Olentangy lose to Westland and Westerville Central, Thomas lose to Liberty, Berlin lose to Newark and Jerome lose to Orange.

The Week Ahead: The Cardinal division can bounce back with early non-league games. Hilliard Darby will travel to Grove City and Marysville will host Marion Harding on Tuesday. Dublin Jerome visits Bishop Hartley on Wednesday. Then league play takes place on Friday, as 1-0 Marysville and Jerome square off, Berlin heads to Darby and Olentangy hosts Thomas Worthington.

OCC-Central

The Week That Was: It was a relatively quiet week in the Central as league play took a pause. Notable non-conference games that happened and not already mentioned were Hilliard Bradley's home loss to Westerville Central on Wednesday, but bounce back wins against Westland and and Dayton Stivers over the weekend. Upper Arlington took a double-digit home loss to Pickerington North on Friday.

The Week Ahead: Three Central teams will participate in the 5-C Classic, as Dublin Coffman kicks off the event against St. Charles and Olentangy Liberty plays Pickerington North on Sunday. Upper Arlington will conclude the series on Monday against Worthington Christian. Then on Friday, league play has three match-ups that pit 1-0 teams in the conference against 0-1 opponents. Coffman visits Orange, Bradley makes the short trek to Davidson and UA will travel to Liberty.

OCC-Ohio

The Week That Was: Shout out to Westland, who per Zach Fleer, won their first game over an OCC opponent not named Central Crossing, Franklin Heights or Groveport Madison since 2019 as they defeated Olentangy 57-51 on Tuesday. With league play off this week, Westerville Central picked up notable non-league wins over Hilliard Bradley and Olentangy, while Gahanna did the same against Pickerington Central and Pickerington North defeated Upper Arlington.

The Week Ahead: A lot of attention will be on the intriguing match-up of the previously mentioned 5-C Classic game between Pickerington North and Olentangy Liberty on Sunday. Otherwise, league play resumes on Friday and is highlighted by a showdown between Grove City at Westerville Central, both 1-0 in the division. On Saturday, there's non-conference action as Westland visits Independence and Gahanna travels to currently undefeated Licking Heights.
