GROVE CITY, Ohio -- The annual 270 Hoops' Battle for the City presented by E.E. Ward Moving took place last week at Central Crossing High School.

The showcase puts top players from each class from the OCC against the various leagues to make up the Central Ohio team.

On Wednesday, we said goodbye to the 2023 class as the OCC defeated Central Ohio 147-111.

Below, our prospect scouts highlighted their favorite performances from the day.

Devin Royal (Pickerington Central / 6'7 PF) It is no surprise the Mr. Ohio and former state champion makes our list as a top performer. And while Wednesday's night event was not nearly as high stakes as the countless numbers of games we saw him dominate over the last few years, the future Buckeye put on a show for the fans that wanted to get a glimpse of his elite talents. Royal was a dunking machine, with finishes around the rim, in transition and on multiple alley-oops. Along with a couple of threes, Royal delivered an effortless 32 points and looked the part of a perfect, fun teammate for his OCC counterparts to have along side in an all-star game. Royal capped off his high school career with a final award; the 270 Hoops Senior Player of the Year and he will go down as one of the most accomplished and talented players covered in 270 Hoops history. GG

Elias Lewis (Olentangy Orange / 6'2 SG) After he helped lead the Pioneers to a regional final runner-up and the school's best season in program history, Lewis left us with a memorable performance and a reminder that he is still one of Ohio's best unsigned players from the 2023 class. Lewis is an excellent shooter, as he finished with 21 points and made three triples, but also showed some athleticism, most notably on a made 360-dunk attempt. Lewis was one of the best players in the area this past season and we're still scratching our heads as to why he is not signed. He undoubtedly has scholarship talent and hopefully will find a program that fits his needs, as his best basketball is still ahead. GG

Nyelle Shaheed (Harvest Prep / 6'5 PF) Another player we consider as one of the best unsigned seniors in the state, Shaheed gave fans a selection of highlights with an array of athletic dunks. Shaheed is full of energy, is a physical post presence and has a good spring which leads to strong finishes. A 1,000 point career scorer, Shaheed help lead the Warriors to a regional championship this past year after he averaged over 15 points and six rebounds per game. Any JUCO or NAIA programs that are looking to fill their roster with a competitive, athletic forward that collected a bunch of wins in his high school career, make it easy on yourself and reach out to Shaheed. GG

Billy Berry (Franklin Heights / 6'1 SG): Berry played like he wanted it, playing hard, smart and fast all evening. Berry finished the game with 24 points, putting the ball in the basket from every level on the floor. He hit four threes and gave the defense a steady dose of anything. Transition jumpers, buckets off the catch, and he got to the rim, showcasing a couple different elements of his evolving game. Berry plays with enthusiasm and can affect a game on both ends of the court. His MVP-caliber effort ended with the MVP of the entire evening for the Franklin Heights representative. MF

Jacob Harris (Westerville Central / 6'4 PF) The Bowling Green football commit exhibited his freak athleticism all evening, first by winning the dunk contest then continuing to dunk everything in the actual game. If him jumping over 6’8 Devin Royal and finishing the dunk in one attempt doesn’t convince you that the Falcons have a new red zone threat then nothing else will. Harris was a highlight machine in the game as well, standing out athletically amongst some of the most athletic young men in the area. He will be a stud at the next level on the football field and this entire staff wishes him the best at Bowling Green. MF

Carson Myers (River Valley / 6'4 PF) The big man did not have eye-popping numbers, but he was efficient with his scoring and played solid defense the entire game. Myers scored 13 points, which doesn’t sound great for an All-Star game, but his points came within the flow of the offense early in the game. A third team All-Ohio selection in Division III, Myers is a stretch forward with huge upside because of his ability to score both at the rim and beyond the arc. He drained three shots from deep and was able to put the ball on the floor and finish at the bucket with an impressively soft touch. The senior averaged just over 21 points per game last season and consistently showed his scoring prowess. MF
