A breakdown of Ready's top performers along with Illinois State commit Chase Walker

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Bishop Ready remained undefeated after a narrow defeat over league rival St. Charles Thursday night.

The Silver Knights were led by a trio of seniors while St. Charles was powered by their star center, Chase Walker. We saw at least one regional Division III collegiate head coach in attendance that should have came away impressed by a couple of prospects.

For a further analysis on their performances, check out the Prospect Scouting Report

Kaleb Schaffer (Bishop Ready / 6'6 WF / 2023) Any given night, MVP honors could rotate between three to four different Silver Knights, but on Thursday, that honor went to Schaffer. At 6'6, Schaffer is one of the better shooters in the area amongst players his size. The Silver Knight's stroke was on display, as he connected on two triples along with a couple made attempts from midrange that were so smooth, the net was barely touched. He was also a perfect four-of-four at the foul line. Unlike most quality shooters at this height that are more typically lean, Schaffer has a strong build. We'd like to see him bang in the post a little more, as his strength should allow him to do so. But what we love most about Schaffer is his passion and competitive nature, as his intensity is exuded the moment warm-ups begin. Kaleb has talent and interest level from NAIA and Division III programs, but is also an outstanding academic student. Those factors should make him an attractive prospect for schools that have high academic and athletic standards.

Luke Ruth (Bishop Ready / 6'3 PG / 2023) It was Ruth that sealed the victory on a game-winning free throw with just under three seconds on the clock. It was a clutch moment for the senior guard that was held a few points under his scoring average, but still made an impact in a variety of ways. Ruth finished with eight points and did so with a made three-pointer and a couple of finishes where he utilized the glass well. He led the Knights with three assists and did a good job of finding his teammates in a ready catch-and-shoot position. Although he had a few turnovers he'd like to have back, Ruth was by far the best guard of the evening from either roster. With good size, Ruth is a fantastic prospect at the Division III level and already has received strong interest from a handful of established regional programs.

Chase Walker (St. Charles / 6'9 Center / 2023) The image to the right pretty much sums up Walker's season, as he's an instant magnet for double or triple teams. As mentioned in the 5 Keys article, you can't stop Walker, you can only hope to contain him. Walker was able to get his, as he led all scorers on 13 points and made the right play almost each time he touched the ball. The Illinois State commit has a gifted touch that was best on display with a beautiful turnaround lefty jumper. Even amongst double teams where he fights through hacks, Walker is a strong finisher and has elite footwork around the rim. His two recorded assists did not give enough justice for how well he passed the ball, as he could have recorded at least four more assists from his beautiful feeds that simply went unfinished. Walker has been transparent on his progress to shed some weight, which limits his explosiveness, and knows that journey will be vital for his success at the Division I level. The 6'9 center appears to be making steady improvements with that goal, as he continues to slim down. Walker is one of the most unique prospects we've scouted in recent years and with his advanced touch, footwork and passing ability, we're excited to watch him at the next level.

Additional Notes: If he weren't already committed to play baseball at Air Force, Bishop Ready senior Charlie Russell would certainly garner a mention as the 6'4 forward is probably the best natural athlete for the Silver Knights. Sophomore Kayden Schaffer, younger brother of Kaleb, stood out with eight points in the second quarter and has a similar shooting touch as his brother. He also led the Knights with four rebounds. In the two games I've scouted St. Charles, senior George Mosholder has looked to be the best outside shooter for the Cardinals. On Thursday, he connected on a trio of three point attempts.
