We release our first power rankings in Division III this season

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Division III has been a division dominated by Africentric and Harvest Prep in recent years, and not much seems to be changing. Let's take a look at our first power rankings for Division III this season.

1. Africentric (0-1): Star senior Dailyn Swain is coming off a foot injury and only played 11 minutes in a loss to Lutheran East on Saturday. The Nubians will be off this week, allowing Swain time to rest before City League play opens up next week.

2. Harvest Prep (0-2): Very rarely has Harvest Prep ever started a season off 0-2. The Warriors had an insanely difficult start to the year, taking on defending state champions Cincinnati Taft (Division III) and Richmond Heights (Division IV). Harvest Prep lost both games but will have two highly winnable division games against Berne Union and Fairfield Christian this week.

3. Columbus Academy (1-0): Academy opened up the year with an impressive 20-point win over Marion-Franklin. The Vikings can continue the hot start to the early going of the season with MSL league matchups against Whitehall and Bexley this week.

4. Heath (0-0): Moving down to Division III, the defending D2 district champs may have lost a deal of talent to graduation, but will still be a force. Heath is off this week before traveling to Marion-Franklin a week from today.

5. Worthington Christian (1-1): Worthington Christian dropped its opener at home against Johnstown, but rebounded with a blowout win over Cristo Rey. We'll know more about this new Warriors program after two league matchups against Bexley and Grandview Heights this week.

6. Kipp Columbus (0-0):  Kipp is a team that we think will take a major leap this year. This team is talented and will look to start 2-0 with two winnable games against Cristo Rey and Ridgemont this week.

7. North Union (0-0): North Union has lived in the later rounds of the Division III tournament in recent memory but has yet to break the ice of a district title. The Wildcats have a handful of quality returnees from last year's roster and could be a major player once again. They'll open up their season on Friday against Benjamin Logan.

8. Fairbanks (1-0): Fairbanks went on the road and knocked off Pleasant on Wednesday. They will have two home matchups this week which could both be difficult with Urbana and West Liberty-Salem coming to town.

9. Madison Plains (0-0): Madison Plains had a solid year last season and I believe they're capable of another great year. Senior guard Michael Bearden is one of the most talented lead guards in the area that not many know about. We see him powering the Eagles to a great season in Division III.

10. Horizon Science (1-0): The Hawks are a rising program this year, who will have a difficult schedule once again. However, no longer being in Division II, we think Horizon Science will have a chance to really compete in Division III. We'll know for sure this week, as Horizon will hit the road three times, with big games coming up against East and Wellington.
