A look at some of the top performers from this past weekend's tournament

FORT WAYNE, Indiana -- This weekend I traveled out of town to Fort Wayne, Indiana for the Gym Rats Bill Hensley Run N’ Slam. Some of the best Midwest teams attended including teams from the Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour circuits. A ton of college coaches were in attendance to watch potential recruits. This article recaps some of the top performers from the Ohio teams at the Run N’ Slam.

Ryan Nutter/2023/Nova Village UA Rise 17U/Dublin Jerome

Nutter displayed his really polished inside game with a variety of finishes inside the paint. He is a strong driver and doesn’t shy away from contact which allowed him to get to the free-throw line. Nutter converted a couple and one opportunities which showed his ability to finish through contact. He has a really smooth post fallaway jumper that he hit a couple of times. He finished with 12 points on an efficient shooting night. He also had the primary ball-handler duties for some time and ran the offense well. Nutter is part of a strong 2023 class for Jerome that can make some noise next season.

Chase Walker/2023/Nova Village UA Rise 17U/ St. Charles

Walker is a matchup nightmare for opposing teams in the paint. At his size, defenders had to double him or foul him to prevent easy buckets. The problem is Walker can hit free throws consistently so fouling him isn’t an option. He is also a great passer and found teammates with ease so doubling him isn’t an option. Walker is a really patient post scorer and has a flurry of post moves to throw at his defender. He finished with 13 points to lead his team. The big man also moves really well on the perimeter and can guard quicker players. He plays excellent screen defense and recovers well. He is one of the best bigs in Central Ohio and can continue to dominate the rest of the AAU season.

Luke Kuhlman/2023/Mid Ohio Pumas Adidas Gold 17U/Dublin Jerome

The three-point shot sets up everything for Kuhlman on the offensive end. He scored 26 points with six made triples. He can hit off the bounce or spot up off the catch which makes it hard for defenders to guard him. He shot 6/11 from three which showed his efficiency as a shooter. He uses pump fakes well to get inside and hit a few tear-drop floaters. Kuhlman is also great at drawing contact and got to the free-throw line twice. Another key piece for Jerome, Kuhlman is poised to have a strong senior year.

Kyler Daugustino/2023/Mid Ohio Pumas Adidas Gold 17U/Alexander

Daugustino had by far the most impressive performance of the weekend with a 34-point explosion. Of his 34 points, 30 came inside the three-point arc as Daugustino dominated the paint. He excels going toward his left and was rarely denied on that side of the rim. He creates well off the dribble and works hard through contact. He is strong with the ball and hardly ever turned the ball over. He is also a great cutter as his post teammates found him on a few occasions. This was my second look at the Alexander guard and he has been one of my favorite players this AAU season.

Rayvon Griffith/2023/Midwest Basketball Club/Cincinnati Taft

Griffith has all of the physical tools of a high-level prospect to succeed at the next level. He explodes to the rim and can elevate over any defender. He also has a really good mid-range jumper that he hit a few times. Griffith can hit contested jumpers easily and consistently. He is quick with the ball and gets downhill in a hurry. His physical tools extend to the defensive end of the floor where he skied for blocks and came up with a ton of steals. The recent Cincinnati commit will be a high-level player for the Bearcats.

Logan Beaston/2023/Ohio Buckets Turf/Tiffin Columbian

Beaston has a straight burner and led his team to a win with 23 points and seven made threes. He does all the things that great shooters do such as constant movement and running hard off screens. He also uses ball fakes really well and sets his feet on the catch. His shooting ability rightly caught the eye of a few college coaches. Every time Beaston shot a three you expected it to go in.

Austin Parks/2023/Ohio Buckets Turf/St. Marys Memorial

Parks is a dominant big man that towers over the competition. He gets post position early and goes up strong. Every time he caught the ball, Parks was immediately doubled but he still was able to dunk the ball through contact. He passed well out of the post and racked up a few assists. Parks also cleans up the glass and grabbed almost every rebounds. He gets great position down low and boxes out well. The Ohio State commit is someone that Buckeye fans will love in two years.
