#7 Heath 63, #12 Bexley 57

In a back and forth game with multiple lead changes, Heath came out on top of Bexley by a final score 63-57.

At the start of Saturday’s contest, senior Brandon McLauglin showed off his explosion for Heath by starting the quarter with a dunk and finishing the quarter with an alley-oop slam from senior Keylan Williams. Williams also provided an and-one conversion for the Bulldogs, but senior Chris Mitchell kept Bexley in it early by scoring their first seven points of the game. Heath held a 14-13 lead after the first frame.

The second quarter was back and forth and evenly played. Both teams' best players were making huge plays highlighted by senior Henry Brandt of Bexley and Williams of Heath with seven points each. Williams made a layup at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 29-28 halftime lead.

Heath controlled the tempo and really slowed down the pace in the third quarter by switching to a zone defense. Both teams struggled to score, combining for 12 points in the frame with Bexley taking a 35-34 lead headed into the fourth.

Senior Reece Huber was impressive on Saturday, bringing the energy, slashing to the basket and just doing every little thing that the Bulldogs needed. Heath started the final frame on a 9-2 run, with Huber scoring or assisting on all nine points, while hammering home two impressive dunks. Brandt answered this run with a triple, cutting the Bulldogs lead to just five.

Mitchell of Bexley and senior Payton Lees each traded back to back threes with 2:28 left. This was followed by Mitchell and Brandt each providing triples to cut Heath’s lead to three, but dunks by McLaughlin and Huber helped put the nail in the coffin on Saturday afternoon.
