COLUMBUS, Ohio -- All that Devonte Curry needs is one opportunity.

The Briggs senior turned in one of the biggest scoring performances anywhere in Central Ohio in the last few years, going off for 44 points in an unfortunate loss to Africentric on senior night, a team that he only mustered five points against in their first meeting.

Curry is a late bloomer who is enjoying one of the best seasons anywhere in the state in terms of scoring the basketball. The senior guard shot up to 6-foot-4 over the offseason and is an elite shooter who is only going to continue to improve.

To put Curry's big time scoring this season into simple terms, here are his scoring numbers from the last five Briggs games that we have received box scores from: 29 points, 29 points, 20 points, 33 points, 44 points (!!!).

While the senior is the go to guy for Briggs, he also does a good job of creating for his teammates and is typically pretty efficient.

In last night's game against an Africentric squad with a ton of talented athletes, Curry nailed five three's, converted on seven two-point field goals and went 15-for-16 from the free throw line.

Curry currently holds a JUCO offer from Hocking College. For any JUCO'S or small schools reading this, we recommend that you go and watch the senior. He is putting together an amazing senior campaign and is more than deserving of opportunities to play at the next level.

While nobody in the area came close to what Curry did last night in terms of scoring the ball, there were a ton of other big performances, so lets take a look at them below.

Chase Ouellette (6'7 SF / Wellington / 2022): In an intriguing matchup against a Centerburg squad who is enjoying a really good season, Oullette exploded for 32 points last night in a five point loss. Oullette has been absolutely dominant for this season as he recently scored 34 points in a contest against a Grandview squad with a great shot to win a district title in Division IV. At 6-foot-7, the senior wing can score it from all three levels and has a great understanding of how to play and get to his spots. He became just the fourth player in Wellington history to score 1000 career points last night, joining Dallas Patrick, Rene Haynes and Sean McCants in the club. Ouellette has now scored 29+ points in five games this season, most notably dropping 37 against Caldwell early in the year. Denison got an absolute steal in the senior wing as he will make an immediate impact at the Division III level.

Dailyn Swain (6'7 G / Africentric / 2023): Swain dueled it out with Curry last night, pouring in 31 points of his own to lead Africentric to another City League South victory. This is what we have come to expect out of Swain against inferior competition as he has the skill to put up big time numbers night in and night out in the City League. He will have the chance to turn in another big scoring performance on Wednesday night against a West High squad that he dropped 27 on last week. The junior wing is a little over a week away from the biggest City League game of his career as Africentric will likely face off against Beechcroft in the City League Championship game on Saturday, February 12.

Amani Lyles (6'8 hybrid big / Beechcroft / 2022): Similarly to Oullette, Lyles joined the 1000 point club last night as Beechcroft clinched a City League North title with a big win over Linden-McKinley. Lyles controlled the paint all game in the contest, grabbing 22 rebounds and blocking five shots to go along with scoring 29 points. Just like Swain, we expect Lyles to put up these type of numbers in the City League. He has been a dominant force for Beechcroft over the course of his career and has a chance to lead them to back-to-back City League titles if they take down Africentric next weekend. Lyles is one of the best unsigned seniors in the entire state as scholarship programs should continue to keep an eye on him as we move deeper and deeper into the season.

Ashton Mahaffey (5'10 G / Logan / 2022): Mahaffey turned in one of his better performances all season on Tuesday night, scoring 25 points in a close loss to Fairfield Union. The senior wing nailed five triples in the contest and also dropped off three assists, creating some much needed offense for the Chieftains in the contest. Our staff was impressed with Mahaffey when we watched him earlier in the season against Canal Winchester as he works as a very nice complement to fellow senior backcourt mate Tegan Myers. Logan is making the move to the OCC beginning in the 2024-25 season and their group of seniors this season have proved they will be just fine as they have picked up multiple wins against opponents from the conference despite a tough loss to an MSL foe on Tuesday.

Cade Norris (6'3 HG / Hilliard Bradley / 2024): Despite Hilliard Bradley taking a loss to Groveport Madison last night, Norris continued his dominant sophomore campaign by scoring 25 points in the contest to lead all scorers. Norris is a really intriguing prospect in the class of 2024 as he offers a unique blend of guard skills, size and the ability to shoot the ball. He is next up in the line of elite hoopers at Hilliard Bradley with the last name Norris and the word on the street is that he will not be the last one. While last night's loss was certainly unexpected for the Jags, they will always be a tough team to beat come tournament time. Their combination of culture, buy in and will to win is always tough to beat come March.
