Jenna Kopyar and Tessa Grady combined for 54 points in a big win

DUBLIN, Ohio – Friday’s OCC-Central matchup put top ranked Dublin Coffman against upstart Hilliard Davidson. A tightly contested first half was turned into a blowout once Davidson super sophomore Gwen Jenkins went out with an injury in the second quarter. Jenkins’ absence greatly affected Davidson (4-4, 2-2), as Coffman (6-1, 4-0) took a 41-23 halftime lead into a 77-44 victory at home.

Coffman super juniors Jenna Kopyar and Tessa Grady dominated, combining for 54 points to power the Rocks.

This game started off slow but quickly picked up the pace in the first quarter. Coffman junior Kopyar had a terrific first half scoring the basketball from all over the floor. She helped the Rocks establish a 17-13 first quarter lead thanks to her all around playmaking. Davidson kept it close for most of the first half until Jenkins went down with an injury trailing 23-19. From that point forward, Coffman closed the half on an 18-4 run and never looked back.

In the second half, it was business as usual as Coffman kept its foot on the gas in the third quarter and extended its lead to 23 points heading into the final frame. Coffman rolled in the fourth quarter and took home a 33-point win.

Kopyar led all scorers with 28 points, knocking down five threes and commanding both ends of the floor. Grady added 26 with three triples of her own, while senior Cassidy Lafler and senior Taylor Covington rounded out the scoring with eight and six points, respectively.

For Davidson, Abby Emery led the Wildcats with 16 points. Kierstyn Liming added 13 points while Jenkins finished with six points in limited action due to injury.

Davidson’s road doesn’t get much easier as the Wildcats will head out east to take on Granville next Wednesday.

Coffman will look to keep rolling and pick up a rivalry win on Monday night against Dublin Jerome.

Jenna Kopyar (5’11 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2023): Kopyar is simply a winner. She impacts the game at a high level and can always be found making plays. We were really impressed with the way she shot the ball on Friday, knocking down a handful of deep jumpers. Kopyar rebounds at a high level, is an intense defender, has a great handle and is a very good passer. No matter what you need her to do for your team, she can do and do it at a high level. No brainer Division I recruit. She is capable of putting up scoring numbers like she did on Friday on a consistent basis.

Tessa Grady (6’2 PF / Dublin Coffman / 2023): Grady is one of the most versatile athletes in the area. She offers a great deal of versatility due to her length, foot speed, athleticism and dexterity. Grady is a very good finisher going to her left, can stretch the floor with her three point shot and is a stout rim deterrent that can switch onto guards while shutting down bigs. You need two way studs like Grady to win big and Coffman is fortunate to have one of the best in the area.

Gwen Jenkins (5’8 G / Hilliard Davidson / 2024): While Jenkins only got to play a quarter and a half on Friday, her impact was felt nonetheless. The sophomore is a very good offensive player who can score and create for others. We love the way she can attack off the dribble, as she has a deep bag of dribble moves and can greatly create separation. The 5-foot-8 guard is a knockdown three point shooter that can make shots coming off movement and off the bounce. There’s no wonder why she picked up a handful of Division I offers over the summer. We hope that the injury she suffered on Friday is not serious and will not keep her out for long.

Kierstyn Liming (5’9 G / Hilliard Davidson / 2022): We enjoyed watching Liming play on Friday, as she showed a strong ability to make plays. She can score it, can pass it and plays with a great deal of purpose. We would like to get another viewing of Liming with Jenkins in the backcourt for an entire game, as they played well off one another and really helped the Wildcat offense go.
