COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For the first time in a while, this edition of stars of the night is going to be highlighted by a player from the KMAC.

In a night without many OCC games, Mount Gilead sophomore Elijah Chafin exploded for 33 points in a 79-70 league win over Northmor.

A hidden gem in the KMAC, Chafin put together an impressive freshman season and we expected him to carry that over to this winter, which he has certainly been doing thus far.

In a game that went into overtime, the sophomore proved clutch down the stretch to help Mount Gilead pull out a close win. After scoring 15 points in the first three frames, Chafin combined for 18 in the fourth quarter and overtime.

After nailing all six of his attempts at the free throw line in the fourth, Chafin went 7-for-8 from the line in overtime and hit a big three to help the Indians pull away late.

Outside of going 15-for-17 at the stripe in the contest, Chafin also buried two triples and converted on six two-point field goals.

Mount Gilead has a really good collection of young talent and it all starts with Chafin. Due to the youth on their roster, the Indians have a real shot to be amongst the best teams in the KMAC over the next few years.

If they continue to receive big games from Chafin like they did on Tuesday, the Indians could even make some noise in the conference this season.

Outside of Chafin's monster performance, there were some other great scoring performances on Tuesday as well, so let's take a look at them below.

Grant Bentley (6'2 G / Northmor / 2024): Another stud sophomore in the KMAC, Bentley dueled it out with Chafin all night on his way to 30 points in the overtime loss for Northmor. Scoring nearly half of his points in the first quarter, Bentley knocked down three triples and went for 13 points in the frame to help Northmor jump out to a five point lead after one. After scoring just a combined six points in the middle two quarters, Bentley got hot from deep again in the fourth. He nailed another two three's in the quarter and also hit three free throws to tally nine points in the frame, but it was simply not enough to overcome the consistency of Chafin at the free throw line. After turning in a performance like he did on Tuesday, Bentley is certainly a KMAC player we will be keeping our eyes on moving forward.

Evan Dozer (6'2 WG / Bloom-Carroll / 2022): For those of you who have not caught on yet, Dozer is a flat out bucket getter in the MSL-Buckeye. Arguably the best player in the league this season, the senior guard continued his hot start to the campaign by dropping 27 points in a blowout win over Teays Valley last night. Dozer is a flat out scoring machine who can put the ball in the bucket in a handful of ways from the guard spot. With good size and strength at 6-foot-2, Dozer can get inside and finish and also is capable of hitting shots from the mid-range and from beyond the arc. Dozer seems to fill it up efficiently every single time that we watch him and we believe he would be a great pickup for any small school program in need of guard play.

Kenyatta Whiteside (6'4 W / Groveport Madison / 2022): Continuing his hot start to the season, Whiteside went off for 27 points last night as Groveport Madison traveled to Canal Winchester and picked up an impressive win over the Indians. Getting it done in every single quarter on Tuesday, Whiteside was consistent for the entirety of the game, scoring 13 points in the first half and 14 in the second half to power the Groveport Madison offensive attack. Whiteside is an intriguing prospect at 6-foot-4 as he has been off to a hot start this season. Tuesday night marked his third 20+ point game of the season and helped the Cruisers pick up a big win. We are excited to track Whiteside the rest of the season as Groveport Madison has a solid core of seniors who play together and have the potential to win some big games.
