COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Now two full weeks into the season, we have an idea of who the top handful of teams are in Central Ohio. League play for the Ohio Capital Conference, City League and others will begin to help shape the picture up, but for now let's take a look at the rankings as they stand today:

DIVISION I

  1. Gahanna (2-0): The Lions have rolled so far, putting away a scrappy Westerville North team by double figures to start the year, and then easily rolling Cincinnati Taft last Saturday. Tony Staib's bunch hosts Westland on Friday, but will get a tougher test next Friday when they travel to No. 7 New Albany.

  2. Pickerington Central (1-0): After a 54-49 win to open the year over Akron Buchtel, the Tigers will get a couple tests over the next week, hosting Newark on Friday and cross-town rival No. 3 Pickerington North on Tuesday.

  3. Pickerington North (2-0): Jason Bates' squad has played two wildly different games to open the year, surviving an overtime test against defending state champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 85-83, and then allowing just 18 points in a dominating win over Centennial. No. 6 Westerville Central comes calling on Friday before the match-up  on the road with No. 2 Pickerington Central on Tuesday.

  4. Westerville South (2-0): Calo's Cats are stingy once again on defense, and that paid dividends in their opening wins over Northland and No. 10 Dublin Coffman. League games against Dublin Scioto and Big Walnut are on the docket for the next four days, before Westerville North rolls in for a rivalry match-up.

  5. Hilliard Bradley (1-0): After a gritty 54-47 win over Mason at the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic, the Jaguars will be on the road once again, traveling to Upper Arlington for a crucial OCC-Central game to open league play.

  6. Westerville Central (2-0): The defending regional champions have been tested twice already this year, knocking off Newark on the road in comeback fashion before outlasting DeSales 47-44 on Tuesday. The Warhawks travel to No. 3 Pickerington North on Friday to open league play.

  7. New Albany (1-0): A big 47-46 win over Dayton Dunbar opened the 21-22 campaign for the Eagles, and now face two road games over the next four days, traveling to Grove City on Friday and No. 8 St. Charles on Tuesday.

  8. St. Charles (1-0): The Cardinals pulled off an incredible win to start the season, rallying to defeat Dublin Jerome on the road 53-48. There's no time to celebrate though, as they travel to Ready (D3 #3) on Friday, state power Moeller on Saturday, and then play host No. 7 New Albany on Tuesday.

  9. Canal Winchester (1-0): After opening the season with a shootout overtime win at Grove City, the Indians are looking to make it 2-0 on Friday night when they travel to defending league champion Worthington Kilbourne.

  10. Dublin Coffman (0-1): The Shamrocks had a stellar performance from Ajay Sheldon and Aiden Schmidt on Tuesday night, but fell short in their opener to No. 4 Westerville South. Coffman will get their chance to bounce back on Friday, when they play host to Olentangy Liberty.

DIVISION II

  1. Beechcroft (0-1): Despite a tough 88-81 loss to Cincinnati Woodward on Saturday at the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic, the future is bright for the Cougars, playing host to Toledo Rogers on Saturday before opening City League North play Tuesday with Centennial.

  2. DeSales (0-1): The Stallions lost 47-44 on Tuesday in battle of defending regional champions, falling to Westerville Central late. Now, they'll have to bounce back in a hurry, hosting (#3 D3) Johnstown on Friday.

  3. Heath (1-0): Heath had no trouble in their opener, dispatching Marion-Franklin 65-26 on Wednesday, and similar to DeSales, will play host to (#3 D3) Johnstown on Saturday.

  4. Jonathan Alder (1-0): The Pioneers are back and better than ever, holding Fairbanks to just 12 points on Tuesday in their win. CBC rival London rolls into Plain City on Friday night for a big-time clash.

  5. Bloom-Carroll (1-0): Evan Dozer poured in 27 points on Tuesday night for the Bulldogs as they knocked off Licking Heights on the road to open the season. Games against Circleville on Saturday, and Marion-Franklin on Monday stand in the way of a 3-0 start for the Bulldogs.

  6. Watterson (0-2): There's been a rough start for the defending regional champion Eagles, but if there's a coach who can handle that, it is definitely Vince Lombardo. A CCL tilt with Hartley on Friday could get Watterson back in the winning column.

  7. Eastmoor Academy (1-0): After a hard-fought 67-64 win over City League foe Linden, Eastmoor will now get two of its bigger tests on the year, traveling to Thomas Worthington on Saturday and No. 8 South on Tuesday.

  8. South (1-1): Coach Spears and his squad have had mixed results to start the year, dominating in a big win at Centennial last Wednesday, before falling to Richmond Heights 69-57 on Saturday afternoon. Home games against London on Saturday, and No. 7 Eastmoor on Tuesday will give everyone a better picture of where the Bulldogs stand.

  9. Buckeye Valley (1-1): A dominating win over (D3 #8) Wellington got the Barons into the win column for the first time this year, and now will get a chance to climb above .500 when they host Mifflin on Friday.

  10. Linden-McKinley (0-1): The loss to No. 7 Eastmoor should not derail the hopes of the Panthers, who travel to Maple Heights on Saturday, before hosting Mifflin on Tuesday to open league play.

DIVISION III

  1. Africentric (1-1): If the non-conference schedule for Africentric was planned to test the Nubians, it certainly has done its job so far. Close games with Sandusky (win) and Huber Heights Wayne (loss) have given coach Michael Bates a good barometer of where his team stands heading into Tuesday's game at Walnut Ridge to open City League play.

  2. Harvest Prep (0-0): The Warriors have yet to play a game this year, but will open the season on Saturday when they travel to Berne Union.

  3. Bishop Ready (2-0): Wins over Zane Trace and Liberty Union have the Silver Knights at 2-0 on the year. The play of junior Kaleb Schaeffer will continue to be key as they host (D1 #8) St. Charles on Friday as Central Catholic League play begins.

  4. Johnstown (1-0): The Johnnies survived #10 Worthington Christian on Monday night, and will be on the road for two big games this weekend, traveling to (D2 #2) DeSales on Friday, and Mount Vernon on Saturday.

  5. Columbus Academy (1-0): After opening the year with a 51-38 win over Elgin, the Vikings will now turn their attention to hosting Whitehall on Saturday.

  6. Centerburg (2-0): Not many teams in Division III or IV have a better resume than the Trojans so far, knocking off D1 Mount Vernon on Nov. 24 before a convincing 64-54 win over No. 10 Worthington Christian on the road Thursday. A 3-0 start is in their sights if they can take down Cardington on Tuesday.

  7. North Union (1-1): Much like Centerburg, North Union scored a big win over a Division I foe already, knocking off Marysville 42-41 on Tuesday. CBC play begins on Friday as they travel to Graham.

  8. Wellington (0-1): The Jaguars stumbled in their opener, falling 74-48 to Buckeye Valley on Tuesday, but will have plenty of chances to climb the rankings again, starting with a Friday game against Patriot Prep in the Jaguar Invitational.

  9. Mount Gilead (1-0): After a 63-41 win in their opener over Loudonville, the Indians will now open KMAC play with Fredericktown on Friday.

  10. Worthington Christian (0-3): The defending regional champions have had a rough start to the year, falling in all three games by a combined 17 points. There are plenty of chances to turn it around, including a Saturday showdown with Bexley to open MSL play.

DIVISION IV

  1. Newark Catholic (0-0): The Green Wave have not started their season yet, as their football team is competing for a state championship. The Division VII title game is Saturday at 10:30 am, with Newark Catholic taking on Marion Local.

  2. Grandview Heights (2-0): The Bobcats have opened the year with two convincing wins, knocking off Northside Christian and Berne Union both by 25-plus. (#10 D3) Worthington Christian and Liberty Union are on the schedule for Friday and Saturday, respectively.

  3. Shekinah Christian (0-0): The Flames will open their 2021-22 campaign on Friday night when they host No. 5 Tree of Life.

  4. Fisher Catholic (0-0): The Irish have not played a game yet either and will host Millersport on Saturday night to open the season.

  5. Tree of Life (1-0): After a 57-46 win over Fairfield Christian on Tuesday night, a top-five Div. IV match-up is in the works when they travel to No. 3 Shekinah Christian.
