Ella Wigal dropped 25 points to power Granville to a season opening win

HILLIARD, Ohio -- High school basketball is back! The girls basketball season tipped off on Friday as Hilliard Bradley hosted the Jaguar Tip Off Classic. We covered the opening game of the night between reigning Division II district champion Granville and reigning Division I district runner up Logan.

Logan held an early 12-9 lead in the second quarter before Granville turned up the pressure, finishing the game on a 41-13 run to sprint to a dominant 50-25 win.

Ella Wigal, the superstar Granville junior who was Division II district player of the year last season, powered the bulk of the Aces run, scoring a game-high 25 points and proving to be an unstoppable force attacking the rim.

Logan was led by senior guard Brooklin Harris who dominated the first quarter on both ends of the floor, helping the Chieftains build an early lead.

Granville will take on the winner of Hilliard Bradley and Teays Valley on Saturday, while Logan will face the loser of Friday's nightcap.

Let's take a look at the top prospects from the game.

Ella Wigal (5'11 CG / Granville / 2023); The junior Wigal is an absolute bucket. She is relentless attacking the basket where she has the wiggle, length, quickness and athleticism to get by defenders. While her outside jumper wasn't really falling tonight, she made up for it with a handful of paint points to power Granville to the win. Wigal's 25 points came mostly in the final three quarters to help the Blue Aces roll to the blowout win. Our money would be on Wigal to repeat as Division II district player of the year, while she'll also have a strong chance to win a third district title in as many years after winning one at Lakewood as a freshman before last year's Granville run.

Brooklin Harris (5'7 PG / Logan / 2022): The senior guard Harris is a big sleeper in the area. She was the sole reason why Logan jumped out to a 12-9 lead, scoring seven points and assisting on the others, while forcing a handful of turnovers. Harris is a ballhawk on the perimeter, has a tight handle, can attack the defense and finish through traffic. We hope to see her again this season as she plays an entertaining brand of basketball and carries a major load for this Logan team. Certainly a college prospect at the lead guard spot!

Harper Annarino (6'0 dual forward / Granville / 2024): Two words describe Annarino: game wrecker. She is one of the most all-around impactful players in the area with the way she plays the game. Annarino DOMINATED on the interior tonight, blocking and altering more than 10 shots, owning the glass and providing Granville with second chance opportunities. We've seen Annarino dominate a game with her scoring ability, but clearly her role on this Granville team is to be the glass cleaning, shot blocking interior force that she was against Logan. This girl has an extremely bright future as her mentality is team-first and she is not afraid to do the hard things in order to win.

Aliyah Moore (5'5 PG / Granville / 2024): Don't let her size fool you. Moore is a fearless guard that played a strong game for Granville on Friday. The sophomore is an absolute dead-eye shooter that has really improved since last summer, as she knocked down three triples and was the Blue Aces' second leading scorer in the game. Moore is a high IQ playmaker that can handle pressure, play off the ball and provide scoring with her catch and shoot ability. We look forward to watching Moore develop over the next three seasons.
