Davis joins Gahanna's Javan Simmons as second local prospect to commit to Rockets

POWELL, Ohio -- Olentangy Liberty senior wing Cooper Davis brought his recruitment to a close on Wednesday evening when he committed to the University of Toledo.

While he received a ton of interest from Division II programs this summer, Toledo became the first and only Division I school to offer the rising senior back on Aug. 2.

After visiting campus, Davis felt it was the place to be as he loved everything about it.

"The school, the basketball program, coaches and players are all a great fit for me," Davis told 270 Hoops. "The athletic facilities and resources are amazing and the coaching staff and team have the family type of atmosphere that I am looking for."

Toledo, who was one of the top teams in the MAC last season and features Newark alum JT Shumate, plays a very fast style that Davis sees himself fitting into well.

"I definitely fit into their style of play," said Davis. "They are up tempo, spread the floor and they "count by threes."

After establishing himself as a legitimate prospect on both ends of the floor last winter when he helped lead Olentangy Liberty to a district title, Davis saw a major takeoff in his recruitment this spring and summer while playing for Nova Village on the UAA Rise circuit.

Davis picked up offers from Cedarville, Ashland, Saginaw Valley State and Fairmont State over the summer and attributes it to several areas of his game.

"We played against some high level competition this summer," said Davis. "I feel like I continued to shoot it at a high clip and also showed that I can score in other ways and defend high level players."

After setting a school record for three-pointers made in a season at Olentangy Liberty last year, Davis seems ready to become the go-to guy for the Patriots last winter following the graduation of guys such as Henry Hinkle

After putting the recruitment process in the rear-view mirror, Davis is as focused as ever on his upcoming senior campaign.

"It feels good to have (the recruitment process) out of the way," said Davis. "I can now focus on enjoying my senior year and helping our team have the best season possible. We will plug new guys into spots vacated by last year's seniors and we will play the right way."

Now becoming the second local player to commit to Toledo in the last month and a half, Davis joins Gahanna senior forward and Nova Village teammate Javan Simmons as apart of the Rockets 2022 recruiting class.
