A look at the top performers from the 2023 session at Battle for the City

SUGAR GROVE, Ohio -- Tuesday's second game featured an incredibly talented sophomore class. The OCC team left no doubts in a 74-48 win over the Central Ohio all-stars.

Laila Marshall paced the OCC all-stars with 19 followed by E'Moni Finch with 12, Madison Greene with nine and Clarke Jackson with eight. The Central Ohio all-stars were led in scoring by Brooklyn Mosher with 11, Kiarra McElrath with 10 and Eloise Brandewie with nine.

Here were some of the best players on the night in a tough sophomore class.

Laila Marshall (5'8 G / Gahanna Lincoln / 2023) - Marshall was absolutely relentless on both ends of the floor the entire game. The sophomore game MVP did a little bit of everything for the OCC squad. She is unstoppable in transition, finishes strong through contact and has great range and consistency from three. She defends like no other and is one of the best perimeter defenders in Central Ohio. We expect big things out of Marshall in the coming years. Marshall comes from a Division I bloodline with her older brother Aaron Jackson, a 2013 Gahanna alum, playing at Akron and East Carolina. The sophomore guard has legitimate two-way game, is extremely tough, can score in every single way and has a great feel for the game, all things that will help her become a big time Division I recruit.

Madison Greene (5'7 G / Pickerington Central / 2023) - Greene is going to be the next great point guard out of a prestigious Pickerington Central program. She has an insanely quick first step, major range from three and is a tenacious defender. One of her most impressive attributes is her ability to handle the ball. Her basketball IQ is high, has a motor that never quits and is always making the correct play or decision. She is incredibly competitive and is a winner.

Leila Jones (5'10 G / Westerville South / 2023) - Jones made an impact in all aspects of the game on Tuesday. She took two charges, dove on the floor for a loose ball that resulted in a bucket and hit two three pointers all in the fourth quarter. She handles the ball with well, shoots threes with confidence and makes great decisions. She isn't afraid to sacrifice her body for her team and she wants to win.

Clarke Jackson (5'11 G / Gahanna Lincoln / 2023) - Jackson is a fun, lengthy guard. Her length gives her a great advantage on the defensive end, forcing opposing guards into uncomfortable situations. She plays her best basketball in transition and loves to play fast. Despite being one of the fastest players on the court, she finishes well at speed and through contact. The backcourt trio of Jackson, Marshall and freshman Aaliyah Younger, to go along with junior superstar Bella Ward will help push Gahanna Lincoln to new heights next season.

Nelia Guice (5'9 G / Westerville South / 2023) - Guice played a solid all around game on Tuesday. She connected on a great jab and shoot three, crashed the boards hard for extra looks, anticipated well on defense and attacked the basket to get to the free throw line. The more consistently she plays, the more her stock will rise. Westerville South returns a great deal of young talent and Guice is one of those exciting players to keep an eye on.

E'Moni Finch (5'8 G / Westerville North / 2023) - Finch is an outstanding ball handler and has excellent court vision. On drives to the basket, the lefty makes excellent decision that lead to easy scores. She will knock down an open three and takes whatever the defense gives her. She is a solid perimeter defender, isn't afraid to apply pressure and has a high motor. An all around great player.

Tessa Grady (6'1 F / Dublin Coffman / 2023) - Grady has an extremely high ceiling. The true 6'1 sophomore is a major rim defender but can defend at the perimeter as well. Her length was a major factor near the basket all night, altering numerous shots. She has a smooth three point shot and can finish at the rim. We look for Grady to be an even bigger part of Coffman's success next fall. When Grady and sophomore Jenna Kopyar, who missed last week's event due to vacation, are both on, Coffman is one of the best teams in the state.

Kiarra McElrath (5'6 G / Bishop Hartley / 2023) - McElrath connected on three three pointers during the game and win the three point shooting contest for the sophomores. But that's not all she can do. She always has the ball on a string, finds her posts well, has a beautiful midrange pull up and can get to the rim. She plays solid defense and rebounds well. She will be one of the best players in the CCL next year, as she'll have big shoes to fill with the graduation of Kami Kortokrax.

Brooklyn Mosher (5'10 G / River Valley / 2023) - Mosher, a MOAC representative, made a big impact for the Central Ohio team. She led in scoring an did it in a variety of ways. She can hit the three, attacks the basket with purpose where her length gives her an advantage and can connect from midrange. She will definitely be one of the best players in the MOAC next year and has the potential to be a next-level player.

Eloise Brandewie (6'3 C / Bishop Hartley / 2023) - Brandewie, one of the top volleyball recruits in the state, played very well on Tuesday. Her length makes the opposition question every shot they take, is a major force on both the offensive and defensive boards and finishes strong through contact. The dynamic duo of McElrath and Brandewie will be tough to beat next season.

Taliyah Holmes (5'7 G / Health / 2023) - Holmes is a very intriguing guard in a loaded class. She has an extremely high motor with a never-quit mentality. She has a nice three point shot, attacks the basket with purpose, and can knock down a midrange jumper. She is a great perimeter defender and makes her team better. This season she gave Hartley a run for their money in the District tournament and we expect her to continue to make waves next year.

Ella Wigal (5'11 G / Granville / 2023) - Wigal, a second team All-Ohio selection, is capable of playing great basketball. She is most comfortable attacking the basket and scoring inside but will knock down an occasional three. She was one of the most consistent rebounders for the Blue Aces this season and averaged over three steals a game. Wigal really impressed with her handle on Tuesday, as she was able to create off the bounce and gave defenders fits. If she continues to improve and impress at this rate, she will be a great Division I prospect.

Megan Weakley (5'9 G / Worthington Christian / 2023) - Megan, the younger sister of Division III District Player of the Year Kat Weakley, has the potential to be a great shooter. She has excellent form and the ability to hit from deep outside. She handles the ball well and takes up space on defense with her length. With a little more consistency from three, she will be a great asset to Worthington Christian next season.
