A look at the top performers from the 2021 session at Battle for the City

SUGAR GROVE, Ohio -- The OCC team used a dominant second half to propel themselves to a 81-68 win over the Central Ohio all-stars in the first annual 270 Girls Hoops Battle for the City.

Emma Shumate and Chloe Callahan led the OCC stars with 17 points a piece followed by Alexia Mobley with 13, Carly Callahan with 11 and Amaris Lowery with 10. Central Ohio was led by Ariyah Douglas with 16, Kenzie McConnell with 12 and LaBriar Franklin-Page with 11.

Wednesday's senior Battle for the City matchup featured fourteen college basketball commits ranging from NCAA Division I to Division III to NAIA Division I. Here were some of the night's top performers.

Alexia Mobley (6'2 F / Reynoldsburg / 2021) - Mobley, a Louisville commit, was phenomenal on Wednesday. Scoring in a variety of ways, she showed why she is one of the best players in the entire country. She rebounded better than anyone in the gym and finished well through contact. She nearly threw down a dunk in regulation and slammed one home right after the game was over. We wish her the best of luck at Louisville, as she had a tremendous three year career at Reynoldsburg and Whitehall.

Emma Shumate (6'1 F / Newark / 2021) - After scoring just three points in the first half, Shumate took over in the second. She scored on all levels, distributed the ball well and was a major spark. She has a insane competitiveness and winning mentality. She will make a big impact at West Virginia as soon as she steps on campus. We have never covered a player who wants to win as much as Shumate does, as her competitive desire and fire are reasons why she is so impactful.

Kenzie Bicking (5'9 G / Dublin Coffman / 2021) - A Muskingum commit, Bicking continues to be one of the best three point shooters in the area. She hit one in the game but took home the senior class three point shooting title. She has the ability to be the emotional leader on any team and is a GREAT teammate.   While she did not provide a ton of statistical production for Coffman, her team-first attitude and mentality were reasons why the Rocks were so good.

Ariyah Douglas (5'7 G / Marion Harding / 2021) - Douglas is a game changer and game wrecker as evident by how she immediately impacted the game Wednesday night. She scores well at all levels and is an elite passer. Her three point shot is smooth and she has a big range. She makes her teammates better and looks to make Division I Delaware State better next fall. Douglas has the unique skill to throw people open, something that only a small percentage of point guards have.

Casey Humphrey (5'3 G / Groveport Madison / 2021) - Humphrey is an intriguing guard. If given a bit of space, she has a consistent shot from three. She handles the ball well and can get to the basket. What impressed us the most was her defensive intensity and lateral movement. She has the ability to harass opposing guards and forced multiple turnovers. Humphrey is one of the most productive of the unsigned senior guards in the state.

La'Briar Franklin-Paige (5'8 G / Beechcroft / 2021) - Franklin-Paige was one of the best players in the City League this season. She has a quick first step and finishes well at the rim. She scored at all three levels on Wednesday night and handled the ball with poise. She is extremely capable on the defensive end. She could definitely play at the next level if she can find the right fit. Junior college programs in Ohio and the region should covet her quickly. She has juco All-American type potential.

Kenzie McConnell (6'2 F / Circleville / 2021) - McConnell is a solid as they come. The forward was a force around the basket. She finishes strong through contact and is a consistent rebounder. McConnell has a great midrange shot and beautiful form. She has the potential to be the next great post player starting next season at Ashland, a Division II powerhouse. McConnell leaves behind a great career at Circleville where she powered the Tigers to multiple MSL championships and a district title in 2020.

Gabbie King (5'10 F / West Jefferson / 2021) - A third team All-Ohio selection, King proved why she is one of the top in the state. She did a little bit of everything for the Central Ohio all stars on Wednesday night. She has a great three point shot, passes effectively and is a solid defender. She will be a great addition to DePauw next season and will be a standout in Division III basketball. We love watching players who impact the entire game and King does exactly that.

Kayla McClendon (5'5 G / Columbus Academy / 2021) - McClendon has a smooth consistent left-handed three point shot. She can get to the basket to score and passes the ball well. She proved herself to be a solid perimeter defender. Like Franklin-Paige, if she can find the right fit, she will be a great asset to a program at the next level. McClendon has recently picked up a handful of Division II offers from programs in West Virginia.

Carly Callahan (5'9 G / Hilliard Bradley / 2021) - Carly is a playmaker. Whether it is pushing in transition, making the perfect pass, draining a jumper, knocking down a deep three, finishing at the rim or forcing a turnover, Callahan does it well. She will represent Central Ohio and the OCC well at Hillsdale next season. Callahan was one of the best players in the OCC and made a terrific impact in the win for her team last week.

Amaris Lowery (6'0 G / Dublin Jerome / 2021) - Lowery is a scorer. She is incredibly lengthy and athletic with the ability to score at every level. Her deep range from three is impressive. Her length allows her to disrupt passing lanes and clogs driving lanes. She will play at NAIA Indiana Tech next season and with her sky high work ethic, we see her improving year after year in college.

Chloe Callahan (5'9 G / Hilliard Bradley / 2021) - Chloe, a Findlay commit, made plays all over the floor on Wednesday. She was a consistent force on both the offensive and defensive boards, getting her team extra looks. Chloe is effective at creating looks for both herself and her teammates. She plays well in transition and can score at all levels. Regardless if she is guarding a post or guard, she makes an impact.
