A look at the Division II district semifinal action in the area

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It's theeeeee best time of the year. Four teams punched their tickets to the Division II district finals on Wednesday. Let's take a look at all the action around the area.

Central 1

Jonathan Alder advances to the district finals to take on No. 2 DeSales on Saturday at 1 p.m.

#2 DeSales 65, #9 South 33

DeSales advances to the district finals to take on No. 1 Jonathan Alder on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Central 2

#4 Heath 56, #5 Buckeye Valley 40

Behind 42 combined points from the junior trio of Keylan Williams, Reece Huber, and Brandon McLaughlin, Heath rolled Buckeye Valley 56-40 on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs seem to be clicking at the perfect time, as this was the best defensive performance we’ve seen from them all year.

Both teams were incredibly efficient in the first frame, going back and forth at each other. Huber finished the quarter scoring the final eight points for Heath, but back to back triples by junior Owen Osbourne and senior Jack Rotondo gave the Barons the 19-16 lead after one quarter.

While trailing after the first quarter, the Bulldogs flipped a switch on defense, holding Buckeye Valley to just 21 points in the final three quarters behind a complete team effort. Wednesday’s performance by Heath’s junior trio highlighted how each of them compliments one another, as they all went on big individual runs at different times in the game.

The Bulldogs were led by Williams with a game high 16 and five assists, while Huber added 14 points. McLaughlin also pitched in 12 points and a team high seven rebounds.

Buckeye Valley was led by Osbourne with a team high 10 points and a game high eight rebounds, while junior Troy Scowden, senior Jake Radcliffe, and Rotondo each added nine points. The Barons leading scorer on the season, junior Dylan Thompson left the game in the second quarter with an injury. Look for the Barons to reload, as many key players return from this year’s successful season.

Heath advances to the district finals to take on No. 13 Bishop Watterson on Saturday at 4 p.m.

#13 Bishop Watterson 43, #3 Beechcroft 39

Watterson was able to grind out a 43-39 double overtime victory over Beechcroft behind  a team high 17 points from sophomore big man Cole Rhett.

Watterson’s zone was the key to their success . They were able to dictate the pace from start finish . The game was really mucked up and that’s right in the wheelhouse . The game was closely contested right up until the end where watterson held a 4 point advantage , which was the biggest of the second half. Beechcroft offered responses but would get no closer than 2 late in double overtime as Watterson was money from the line to close out the game .

For Watterson Cole Rhett tied for a game 17 points , Noah Graham scored 10 and Owem Samenck added 9

For Beechcroft Amani Lyles scored 17 points , JJ Simmons scored 11 , and Antwoin Reed jr added 8

Bishop Watterson advances to the district finals to take on No. 4 Heath on Saturday at 4 p.m.
