WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Newark used hot three point shooting to propel themselves into the regional final with a dominant 39 point victory over Pickerington Central by a score of 65-26. 

Senior Emma Shumate connected from three to start the game for the Wildcats but freshman Berry Wallace answered with a three point play for the Tigers. Pickerington Central would only score one more point in the first quarter while Newark went on a scoring rampage. 

Newark scored 16 unanswered points before senior Jocelyn Tate sank one free throw for Pickerington Central.  The Wildcats scored the final seven points of the quarter thanks to seniors Madyson Stottsberry and Abby Derwacter. Shumate scored 11 points in the quarter and Newark carried a 26-4 lead after one. 

Newark's domination continued into the second quarter, out scoring the Tigers 21-11. The Wildcats connected from three six times in the quarter at the hand of three different players. 

Pickerington Central saw great production in the second from sophomore Madison Greene who scored six. At the half, Newark touted a 47-15 lead.

Due to the running clock, the second half did not see as much offensive production as the first.  Newark outscored Pickerington Central 12-10 in the third and 6-1 in the fourth. Stottsberry connected from three twice in the half and junior Gwen Stare added six points for the Wildcats.

Newark featured a balanced scoring attack. They were led by junior Maddie Vejsicky and Stottsberry with 16 each and Shumate with 13. Wallace scored nine in the loss for the Tigers. 

The Wildcats move on to face Dublin Coffman in the regional final on Friday at 7 p.m. at Westerville South.

Newark could be without head coach JR Shumate as he was ejected from Tuesday's game and must serve a two game suspension according to the OHSAA, if that rule is upheld.

This could be a challenge for Newark and makes Friday's matchup even more intriguing.
