COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Tickets to the district finals are being punched in girls basketball. Let's take a look at all the Division III and IV district semifinal action in the area.
Worthington Christian advances to the district final to take on Liberty Union on Fri., Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
Cardington dominated from start to finish in Tuesday's district semifinal matchup versus Johnstown. The Pirates benefited from consistent play by '22 Dana Bertke and '22 Beth Hardwick en route to a 55-37 victory.
The Pirates were off to a hot 7-0 start when '24 Abigail Adkins connected for four straight points for the Johnnies. A Bertke finish at the buzzer gave Cardington a four point lead heading into the second quarter.
Hardwick helped extend the Pirate lead but big efforts from '22 Brooke Barb and Adkins kept Johnstown in the game. Cardington held a five point lead at the half by a score of 23-18.
The second half was a half of small runs mainly dominated by Bertke and Hardwick. Cardington was extremely effective in transition and the pick and roll leading to easy points. By the end of three, the Pirates extended their lead to 11 points.
Cardington continued their domination in the fourth, outscoring Johnstown 16-9. The Pirates were led in scoring by Bertke with 16 and Hardwick with 13. Adkins paced Johnstown with 14.
