Blessing King and Kat Weakley help Worthington Christian secure MSL-Ohio title with win over Bexley

WORTHINGTON, Ohio -- Worthington Christian and Bexley met Friday night to decide the champion of the MSL-Ohio division. The Warriors dominated from start to finish to take down the Lions by a score of 60-43.

Worthington Christian started the game scoring the first six points, but Bexley came roaring back. The Lions pulled within one as the Warriors headed into the second quarter with a 14-13 lead.

The second quarter was dominated by Worthington Christian in all aspects of the game. The Warriors started the quarter on a 16-0 run before the Lions finally hit a three pointer with less than a minute left.

Worthington Christian held Bexley to a handful of shots thanks to the unbelievable shot blocking ability of junior Blessing King. The offensive outburst for the Warriors was led by King with nine to propel Worthington Christian to a 30-16 lead heading into halftime.

Worthington Christian continued their dominating ways in the second quarter, this time on the back of senior Kat Weakley, who scored ten points. Bexley kept the deficit to 14 points going into the final frame by scoring 15 in the third.

Despite their best efforts, the Lions couldn’t to close the gap in the fourth. Worthington Christian extended their lead to 20 points midway through the quarter thanks to their pressure defense and offensive efforts by King, Weakley and Jaeda Tagoe.

Blessing King (5’11 F / Worthington Christian / 2022) - King is so much fun to watch. She has a high motor and is always making plays. She is a consistent rebounder on both ends of the floor, is an elite defender due to her shot blocking ability and lateral quickness and finishes well at the rim. King could use a bit of polishing on her ball handling and shooting abilities, but she has a huge amount of potential and will be an important piece in Worthington Christian’s tourney run.

Kat Weakley (5’10 G / Worthington Christian / 2021) - Weakley can play. The Lipscomb commit was a major factor in the second half of Friday’s game, scoring 15 points. She can score from all three levels, handles the ball with ease, and disrupts passing lanes on defense. In the fourth, she hit a beautiful three  from the corner with a defender in her face. The 270 staff is excited to see where Weakley can take the Warriors this postseason as they have a shot to take down perennial power Africentric in Division III.
