Jayden Nervis and Ryan Paris shine as Hilliard Davidson picks up a win at home

HILLIARD, Ohio -- In a very competitive game between two talented OCC programs, Hilliard Davidson got the best of Grove City on Tuesday night, taking down the Greyhounds 63-54 at home.

In impressive individual showings, juniors Jayden Nervis (19) and Ryan Paris (21) combined for 40 points to lead the way for Hilliard Davidson.

The teams traded buckets for the entire first quarter as Brock Waits and Jared Frey each got going quickly and a lay-in from Michael Hooffstetter late in the frame propelled the Greyhounds to a 13-11 lead after one.

Catching fire early on in the second, Hilliard Davidson put together a 10-1 run to begin the frame and forced a Grove City timeout as they led 21-14 with 4:25 left in the half.

Showing no signs of going away, Grove City quickly put together a big run of their end to close the half and tied the game at 25 late in the half thanks to a three from Waits, however a triple from Paris allowed Hilliard Davidson to head into the locker room ahead 28-25 at the break.

After another back-and-forth frame throughout the third, Hilliard Davidson headed into the final quarter ahead 45-40, however Grove City did not make things easy for the Wildcats closing the game out.

Following a short mid-range from Alex Coffey midway through the fourth Grove City tied things up at 49, however Paris quickly responded with two three's to help Hilliard Davidson regain a lead that they never relinquished after that.

Outside of the combined 40 from Nervis and Paris, they got also got eight points from Frey.

Following the win, the Wildcats shift their focus to a tough test on Friday night when they host OCC-Central foe Dublin Coffman.

For Grove City, Coffey led the way with 18, Daniel Fetty scored 14 and Waits added 11.

They're back in action on Thursday when they host Franklin Heights.

Jayden Nervis (6'5 WG / Hilliard Davidson / 2022): A move-in to Hilliard Davidson this past summer, Nervis is an intriguing 2022 prospect who pieced together an impressive 19 point offensive showing against Grove City on Tuesday night. At 6-foot-5 with good length, a solid handle and a continually improving jump shot, the junior can attack you in several ways and put that on display on Tuesday. He hit two triples, a tough-mid range off the bounce, had a few tough finishes and layed in a lob pass off of a backdoor cut. Defensively Nervis still has room to improve but has the potential to be a major threat on that end as well with his combination of length, athletic ability and speed. We like the way Nervis fits in with Hilliard Davidson's rising junior core and are excited to track him over the next year and a half.

Ryan Paris (6'3 WG / Hilliard Davidson / 2022): Going for a season-high 21 points in Tuesday night's win, Paris put together one of the most impressive showings we have ever seen from him. Putting his beautiful shooting stroke on display, he knocked down five triples off the catch and did so efficiently. Paris also converted on a tough-mid range from the elbow off the dribble, hit a floater attacking the baseline and scored off an instinctive cut while filling the lanes in transition. Paris looks like he has grown a bit over the last couple years as he stands at 6-foot-3 with good length and also has good feet and a motor that allows him to be a difference maker defensively. Paris is a very intriguing prospect in the 2022 class and his stock will certainly rise if he continues to turn in performances like he did on Tuesday.

Alex Coffey (6'1 WG / Grove City / 2021): Turning in an impressive performance on Tuesday night, Coffey led Grove City with 18 in the contest. Scoring it from all three levels, he knocked down a triple, got inside for some tough scores and hit a couple of mid-range jumpers off the bounce. Coffey did a great job of absorbing contact inside and finishing through it on several occasions. We really loved the way he attacked the defense as well as he needs minimal dribbles to get into good shots and put that on display in the mid-range game. Despite not being overly quick, he finds ways to score offensively and comes up with hustle plays on defense as he did on Tuesday including a charge taken. A player who has battled some injuries all season, we are happy to see that Coffey has had a few solid performances in recent games.

Brock Waits (6'0 PG / Grove City / 2021): While Tuesday's game against Hilliard Davidson was not Waits' best showing ever, he still put together a solid 11 point performance. With a tight handle and the ability to change speeds and directions quickly, Waits is very good at getting into his own shot and is comfortable pulling up from deep or in the mid-range off the dribble. He hit a few three's on Tuesday and finished off a tough floater inside as well as dropping off a few good dimes. Waits can create offense for himself and others off the dribble but also has a high IQ and does a great job of working within the offense off the ball, a trait that will play in his favor a ton at the next level. A solid perimeter defender as well, we are excited to see where Waits lands as we think he will be a great college player given the right fit.

Daniel Fetty (6'2 WG / Grove City / 2023): In an impressive showing on Tuesday, Fetty provided Grove City with a big spark off the bench and was an excellent counterpart to Waits and Coffey for the Greyhounds. Fetty scored in a couple of ways, making the most of his touches and doing so efficiently. He hit two triples off the catch, hit a mid range shot and had a couple of tough finishes inside on his way to 14 points. With good size and tools on the wing, Fetty is a young prospect to keep an eye on at Grove City as he will have to play a much larger role next season when they lose Waits and Coffey.
